g'day all
I deceided to have a fish before work on friday morning. left home at 4.30am with a good non fishing mate who was off work cause his mrs was on school holidays. so much for quality time. had the tinnie at raby bay ramp just after five heading for live bait near wolf rock, point lookout. after an hour of jigging and throwing all sorts of fish back we headed out with only a couple of slimies and a handful of yakkas. the drift was bloody quick over the bait grounds which i think caused the dramas
Arrived at the spot about fifteen k's from amity bar set the drift para out and explained what to expect to brett, having not fished offshore before. fishing the trusty tld 25 with braid over goes a livie on one and a pillie on brett's.
got to about forty metres down and whack off goes the first fish on my livie. snapper do really fish through that water column. first fish boated and was in the end,the best fish of the day at 86cm. within five minutes brett had his first snapper in the boat, at a nice two kiloish size a great entrance into the snapper fishing. Ended up losing all livies by nine thirty.
I've found out there that the quality fish are definately on the livies, but the humble old pillie is still a strong performer, claiming five fish with the biggest going 74cm, i really need a good set of fish scales to pass the lie detector.
the bag limit caught and the time being 11.30 (work at 14.30) i thought lets get home and clean up a bit before we are pushed for time. amity bar was only about 0.4m and swell was probably 1m off shore. the worst of the trip was coming around peel on the way home.
All in all a great day out. good sized fish, great weather and great to show a mate why we're so addicted to this hobbie.
pics will be posted when i get my camera back from brett after he's finished bragging.
might have to bash em again on sunday?
