First Timers Jigging Trip from the Weekend

Went on a charter trip on Saturday to try out deep water jigging with a few mates. This was the first time any of us had seriously tried it before, and we were a little concerned that a) it wouldn’t work and b) we would be buggered and not make it through the day. Anyway we were wrong on a) with 15 kings to 16 pounds, 5 amberjack to 21 pounds and 6 or so bonito landed on the jigs. On b) it is a closer call as we were totally knackered but made it through the day!!! We only lost 2 jigs for the day so we were pretty happy about that as well. We all agreed it was the best charter we had done by a long shot. It was great to actually use the gear that I had spent a small fortune on but not yet used (Stella 20000 and T-Curve Deep Jig 400, as well as a collection of jigs). Also they were the first kings and amberjack that any of us had caught so that was a buzz as well.

I think I am hooked and I am really keen to do it all again, but I now just have to save my pennies to go on another charter as my 3.85m punt won’t quite get across the bar…..

Here are a couple of photos of the best amberjack and my best king.

    Catchya,
    Simon

They go hard don't they Simon.....and yes, jigging is very addictive and a very successful way of targeting these fish.

I was out jigging for the first time on Sunday and I can say that it's certainly addictive. Will be buying heavier gear and heading out twice in November hopefully to catch some bigger fish.

Solid fish guys, keep your fingers crossed for some big sambos. I don't know how big they get here but some 30kg specimens aren't unusual to be jigged up out past Rottnest Island,WA

We went out with John Gooding of Outlaw Charters, and fished nominally somewhere "east of Moreton". Unfortunately I wouldn't know a samson fish from an amberjack, but the skipper called them amberjack so I'm sticking with that.
