    Budge,
mate have caught a few jack, and had a bit of sucess with Lures. with the selection of lures it depends on the country being fished. water colour - depth - rocks- snags-troll-cast.
selection depends on these variables and more. you will find yourself useing various retrives for diferent lure actions. also different lures for troll actions.
these are some of the lures i have had sucess.
Tillson Barra, Fingerling and Herring designs.
Halco Scorpian various sizes Troll/ casting.
    Reidys Goulburn jacks.
    Reidys Little Lucifer.
    ect.. ect.. ect....
    the list goes on.

    Maaaaaate,
i loves me Jack fishin, i also forgot. a good rod and reel combo is esential for targeting these bruisers.

i personaly use rod around the 6-8kg (strudwick tps) with a good tip for chuckin lures,a deacent reel (Diawa) and 30lb braid (Bionic) these see me i good stead with most things attached to the end.(i did say most )

a good time to target Jack is the Bottom of the tide,a low around mid-arvo is goo as the water temp is at it's hottest. a low tide around 2pm a few days before the first quater is a good place to start.
