Samson fish?
Hey guys
Today I headed out to Peel island with Adrian. We stopped off at the servo to get a kg of squid, two 1.25L cokes, and a sausage roll for adrian. We must have arrived at the boat ramp at about 7am. We got to peel, set up and first bite got a grinner, second a flathead. At this point adrian hadn't caught anything By the end of the day we ended up catching 12 fish, a flattie (a keeper), an anonymous fish, and 2 squire and 8 grinners. But I still can't figure out what the anonymous fish is adrian reckons it's a samson fish, can samson fish be caught in queensland?? And if so what are there legal limit?

Re: Samson fish?
Hi there Jack...sounds like you both had a great day out at Peel.
Not sure about the legal size of samson fish...funny thing is i to caught a samson fish at Wello last weekend....Thought they were a deep sea fish...Ive caught them on charter boats on the 50 fathoms off the Gold Coast......Did that fish put up a fight?...mine sure did, it was around 30cms but i released it....The charter boat skipper told me they aren't that good to eat....I will get you aboard my boat soon mate....so many of my mates love fishing...can't say i blame them !!
Cheers Brent

Re: Samson fish?
hey brent
did it put up a fight? Hell yeah!! Yep it ran straight out to china and then adrian (he caught it) reeled it all the way back to the boat. But yeah he did fight drag was going off so much i thought there was something wrong with my ears.
No pressure about the boat mate anytime you want.
cheers jack
