    Blue Green Algae.

    Hi all when My Brother was visiting me here in Queensland last week from Nowra N.S.W He was driving past Sommerset Dam .He notice " How bad the ,Blue green Algae was ! "
    are there any other Dams affected in this way and is it bad for your health to eat fish that you catch in these water's
    And what about Swimming in it?

    Harry,

    Fitzy's probably the man to answer this one but we started using Somerset back in 1995 for extended fishing/skiing trips.

    I don't think I've ever been there where a sign hasn't told me there was blue green alge in the water.

    Some times when we were skiing the water was full with it in certain pockets.

    Having said that we always showered afterwards and it didn't have any real effect.

    We also ate bass/yellowbelly (before my catch and release days) which we filleted and skinned and they were fine to.

    Most if not all of the Dams around South East Qld have it. It's just a matter of how big the bloom is.
