    Juniors

    Hey fella's
Here's a poll to see who is and isn't interested in a kid's colum. I already know a few kids that would find it useful and i think it would be too.
Thoughts are appreciated and ideas would be even better.
    Cheers
(PS, thanks for the idea JB)

yeh i like the idea maybe the youngsters can teach us old dogs a few new tricks..and hey then maybe we might be able to help as well. Gotta get behind our future fishers to make sure fish are there for their future fishers mmm i remember a long time ago somewhere in a post someone threw the idea around of starting up a bank of old gear for new fishers..what happened with that idea ??? maybe one weekend ausfish can run a fishing clinic like sunfish..
    cheers

    Re: Juniors

I'd be a hypocrit if I didn't vote for this - think it's a top idea. the world is full of learning - regardless of age.
Young guys like yourself give the others the inspiration and committment to push for the protection and development of our natural resources - keep it up guys!!!

    Re: Juniors

Yeah a kids section would be good because us kids could talk about aspects of fishing with other juniors.

    That s my thought anyway

    Re: Juniors

Not sure what can be improved by having a kids column, knowledge is relative to everyone, fishing is nothing to do with age, I used to catch more fish in my early years because I could fish more, didn't no how to use a computer then, Is there anything specific bo that you can't find mainstream ???

    Hi MackMauler and BO

Bo , I'm the bad guy ,who just voted "not a good idea"

I think MM put the words sorta 'right' , ya can "get it all"......mainstream!

Only "simple suggestion" I can offer, would be to give you little guys ,some age identification in the profile section (to the left) e.g. 13 or 14 or simply <16 maybe?,so us old-ish know-it-alls (me included) ,can pretend to be on our best behaviour....

    Re: Juniors

    Back again!
Heard a good quote once "traet kids as the adults you want them to become"
At the end of the day we have a group of young people saying that they would like the opportunity to converse about fishing issues on their level - who are we to say this is not necessary?
Maybe they don't want to get involved in political issues - that's their choice - I read from a lot of you blokes that have a huge amount of experiene and time on the water that youth can't at this stage compare with - what is wrong with haveing a youth column moderated by experience that helps clarify and explain concerns? No doubt mainstream provides thousands of answers and explainations - sometimes it's not such a bad idea to make those of lesser age and experience feel a little more included and valued!
    Just my thoughts obviously.

    Re: Juniors

    Hey Gazza and Mackmauler,
It's not use older blokes having to go on best behaviour or what ever. Just
Some place were kids could learn the basics of things. I'd probaly be the only junior here that knows what the RIS is! you's sometimes forget
    (not all of ya's)
that we won't get half of the things you talk about. Kid's colum would just be a place were we could talk about things in our way.
Hope you change your mind about the idea.
    Cheers.

    Re: Juniors

    By the way
Fishing in my point has got something to do with age in a way. The older you get the wiser to. I never use to catch fish, but i got told first hand, and now i get my fare share of fish. Thats what I won't to happen to the other young fellas, BUT at an even earlier age. If the youth of fishing has a smart mind on fishing for the future, then there will be more fish left for our kid's and grand children.

I can see little harm and only good to come of it. I would be interested to see what the young Turks have to say.

We all have something to learn
We all have something to teach.

    Re: Juniors

as a father i can see where bo is coming from..as much as a youngster likes to hang with dad they still need their peers..i can remember as a kid fishing with my dad ..my brothers ..my whole family..then there have been times with just my friends my own age...good way for the youngsters on the board to get to know each other as well and possibly make future fishing friend ...instead of mingling with the mainstream
    cheers.

    Re: Juniors

Will see how the vote goes but personaly do not think that it is a good idea to have a kids section.

    1. If someone doesn't know something they should ask. If you don't know - ask. If they want to discuss something then discuss it. Shouldn't matter how old anyone is everyone should be treated equal.

    2. Questions and answers would end up being in different sections of the chat boards, EG - General or Saltwater as well in Juniors.

    3. By creating another section also creates extra work for the moderators.

    4. By setting up a section for people under a certian age also decriminates against people above a certian age. As anglers it shouldn't matter if you are male, female, 12 or 112, we can all learn from each other.

    5. In setting up such an area can also attract certian types of people that are not welcome on the chat boards, but sadly they do exist in the world and on the Internet.
