Folks - have gotta tell you that this sight is THE bestest most civil fishing site I've come across.
I ventured to another site - southern based - and what a S*%t fight. The most aggressive bunch of pricks I've ever come across. > No hesitation on personal attacks from the get go - Probably pissed cause we won the Origin again I suspect. Anyrate my shoulders slope at an angle that the crap rolls right away.

END RESULT - Won't go back to the dark side and WON'T support any of the sponsors on that site. I'm just one little fish in the big pond and will make it my business to tell my fishing mates where the sponsors loyalties lie. Word of mouth is a powerful tool.

Anyrate my bitch done and I'll not stray far again - lesson learnt.

Hey Dave,

As someone who has come over from the site I think you have in mind, I would have to agree that the people here are far more easy going. I can think of a couple of reasons though....

Queensland is better than the southern states for the simple reason that we do not have the sheer pressure of population yet that NSW and VIC experience. I have been keeping track of the issues that the poor rec fisho in those states face and it makes our little dramas over things lie the RIS look deadset petty.

There might be some excuses for those poor southerners I guess - but I will say they post a lot, probably because they can't go fishing. I would like to spend more time chatting here I guess but everyone is always off fishing! (i.e. the reason this place exists!) But still - too much aggro turns you off and there seems to be no shortage of that in the 'other' sites I have visited.

As I said in a previous post - I have a very high opinion of the attitude that the members here display, and I hope to be at the next meet and greet to put some faces to the names.

maybe cause we are just like country bumpkins still from the belke peterson rule who knows, but you cant walk down a main street in sydney and get the g'days and smiles you do up here, i moved to NSW and fished for a living for a while, and its dog eat dog, co-ops try to force you out of existence if you smile wrong, on a brighter note i did find the people around the tweed good to get on with, maybe too close to the Queensland border though but then i think the site will boil down to the administrator, steve is a fair guy and pulls people up when he sees the need, i respect that. thats my 2 bobs worth

Kerry - hard when the moderator/s have their own political agenda. You would have twigged to the site I am refering too and the topic. I had one moderator PM me to voice the views of the sponsors. When I contacted one of the sponsors he outright refuted that this was his position. When the fur started flying the moderator straight out lied and denied ever sending the PM. > What he didn't think I kept his PM.

Gotta agree with you Steve - looking forward to bending the elbow with a few at the next M&G.

In defence of the Blues who frequent this site, I reckon people are people where ever you go.

Those other sites seem to attract bad behaviour and questionable anglers.

NSW and Vic are chock full of guys and gals just like us.

So too this site has a great admin, not driven by profit and politics and power.

This site has evolved over many years and according to Steve, is relatively self governing due to the civil way in which we all apparently behave!! (Geez, what happened there??)

I also like the way that there is a general common thread of respect in amongst all the different types of fishing we do. So often I see on other sites a lot of agro because one person fishes with plastics and another is a dedicated flyguy who has no time for plastics. Get my drift?

I do however, draw the line with dole bludging rent-a-crowd type tree huggers!! ;-)

You're right there Randall - most are actually human. I think you hit the nail on the head - "common thread of respect". Fishing is fishing, in all it's forms and styles. 8)
I think that some may be on the right track - I'd rather be fishing than tapping a keyborad HELL YEH!

both the other sites have their little self appointed mafia who seem to feel that anyone who has an opinion different to theirs should not be on the site. one pleasant side effect is if the fishing is blown out or you just can't get out, you can always get a bite over there!

Any chance of getting the actual address, this is the only message board I have used and have enjoyed it. Wouldn;t mind checking out the mexicans and see how they behave, not a queenslander, just a yobbo from Darwin NT, it would be nice to jump on and see how these mexicans behave, although if it compares with the ones that travel north of the border I have a good idea what to expect. Some or good hearted fishos and the rest are just .......

Jack, yes I is aware of what you are referring. You were doing all right actually.

Actually that characters next topic was what gave "them" (most thought it was a him ) away but that one became a bit of a game especially when they couldn't see the forest for the trees. They weren't into hints at all.

As for opinions (some mentioned that) well everybody has them but when the facts get mixed up in the smoke, the magic and the mirrors as they do sometimes then things need to be said .

As a recent (this year) arrival to NQ from Sydney and a long time user of THAT OTHER SITE I find AusFish is more targetted at us Queenslanders and therefore more useful.

THAT OTHER SITE has some really good contributers for the Sydney region - Col Buckley springs to mind. Their debates are sometimes lively and if they're out of line, don't follow the thread.

Sydney is an aggro place to live. Still one of the world's best cities but you get stressed driving to work each day!
