What impact do the Cages have on the enviroment, re negative impact, I assumed it would be a good thing to breed fish for the table rather than taking wild stock, i don't know anyhing about the cage process or its by products.

Does it damage the bay/harbour that it is installed in. Seen a few posts re cages and wonder what its all about.

    Hi Jew
the impact can be fairly severe, nutrients from the food, increased pressure on the fish stocks to make the food, faeces from the caged stock, diseases, antibiotics the list goes on click on the link and have a read of the 5 fundamental flaws of sea cage fish farming. Have other info if you are interested after reading this

the EIS has been done and is waiting approval / disapproval by the fedral Gov which will be released in the next few weeks, the beattie government has a proven track record of leaning towards where the dollar is and worry about the affects later. Mr beatties words are
nothing will be done until the EIS is released
i personally believe the writing is on the wall and if not i will eat humble pie, i am mature enough, but in the same instance want to be prepared to put pressure on the Government to try and stop it.
    cheers

I'll share it with you brett best to be safe then sorry i guess, if the federal government do okay the EIS, i cant see the state government not going ahead with it. After all they have stated they are worried about the fish stocks in moreton bay and on the GBR and this will one way off getting around that. Time will tell, only another 2 weeks before it all comes to light. BTW, did you manage to sort out those gps marks

Re: How to say no to fish cages

you missed a fact here brett, commercial fishers are allowed fillet weight which will increase tonnage by a third, not to mention the closures on the GBR for reef fin fish also encompass moreton bay down to the border and up into the gulf. So how is this going to affect you fishing the bay ??? so much for the honesty of mr pallet jack or what ever his name is eh
    cheers
    joe.
