Spotty Mackerel - Catch and Release?
I have not caught many mackerel, but they don't look like a species that would survive if released most times? They put so much into the fight, once they stop moving it's all over.
Could you reliably catch and release a spotty?
Cheers
Steve.

Yes Steve ive let hundreds go and have been almost positive they would survive, if you can get the hook out fast thats half the battle, time is the big factor for mine.

Time is critical. Throw a wet towel around them or better still, swim them into a sling and cover their eyes. Use only single hooks (more bites anyway) not gangs and minimise the barb.
Gently put fish back in the water and give it a push.
Good luck. Smaller fish are fairly easy but big ones are a challenge as are all big mackerel.
