    VMR Membership

    Hi everyone,

I am looking for some advise regarding membership in one of the VMR groups around the place. I particular I was thinking of joining either VMR Brisbane or VMR Raby Bay. I would like to do this as it seems to be a good way to provide an excellent service with much needed funding.

My only concern is that on the membership forms for both these groups they ask if you are willing to undertake rostered duty. In the case of VMR Raby Bay they ask if you would be willing to do this for 1 day every 3 weeks.

I don't have any problems helping out where I can, however my job makes it necessary for me to travel frequently and at short notice so it is difficult for me to commit to any routine activities etc.

Can anyone tell me if the VMR groups will accept membership without the committment to rostered duty? I know I could get this answer from the VMR groups directly but I am also hoping that there will be some tips from fishos out there about the best groups to join etc.

    Cheers

    Simon

    Re: VMR Membership

    Hi Simon.

Not sure if this applies to all VMR branches but VMR Beenleigh offer an associate membership (for about $45 per year) that doesn't include a commitment to rostered duty. Their coverage is now from Bribie Is to Pt Danger.

I would assume that most VMRs have a similar thing as not all people have the time or are close enough to be able to do rostered duty. If ever I am close enough to do that then I certainly will.

I can't help you re which are the best groups - I think they are all good and worth supporting. I haven't had to use them since I joined (more than 3 years now) but that doesn't worry me one bit - it's knowing that you are supporting a very worthy cause and that they are there when you need help.

So what do you have to do to join .
I for one have had to use the sevice in the past and was only to willing to give a good donation . After all if it wasn't for these guys and gals I would have had a long paddle .
It is good to know if I have trouble help is just a call away .

    G'Day Reel.

Just pick the VMR you want to join, get their phone number (Beacon To Beacon has a lot of these listed under Emergency Services), call and ask for an application for membership.

Fill it out, send it back with the fee and not long after that you will get a membership card along with all details of benefits that your membership brings.
