Re: ATTN ALL CRABBERS
Hi Fishtime.
You seem to have a bee in your undies or maybe its the red wine .
I like you am just a average Joe Blow who enjoys the pastime of fishing and crabbing.
And along with many others, have over the years, broken the odd rule, and i dont think there would be a Angel out there that hasnt.
Usually when i start or get involved with anything, i either get my head lopped or it works.
As for pro's, i would personnelly like to see the whole lot (fish & crabs) stopped, but for that to happen it would be like me working for the bank and getting a 33 million payout.
I am not employed by QFS, so there wont be any $ potted in my pocket.
The whole idea of the ques' s were to gather some info.
I not asking for any bank account numbers.
If these committees dont no or find out what the average person is thinking or ways of bettering the future stocks, they will most likely make decisons based from some uni' qualified gig or some who sits in front of a computer and thinks they no everything.
All you have to do is look at the number of posts put up on this site lately (re pots missing or misplace or no crabs here or there).
Hope this has cleared the air for you
regards

8)Hi webby
Mate i can not comment on your post about crabbing in QLD as im in the great N.S.W and im not sure about your bag limit or size limits. But i would like to say that i dont think that jennies should be allowed to be taken . Most of lads down here that i know put all the jennies back even if thats all you get so we go home with no crabs . I would like say good luck with your appointment.
cheers spinna 8)

Re: ATTN ALL CRABBERS
gday mate..good work and well done
As u know I love crabbing so this is good news to me that ur on the case
Answers to ur questions are as follows
qA..........b 2
qB..........a yes
qC..........a yes
qD..........a 4
qE...........c 0
qF...........a 8
qG...........a 15
qH...........a
qI............feb,march,april,may
qJ............a yes
qK............a yes
qL.............b increase
qk(again)..b no
qL(again)..a yes
qM...........b fair
qN...........maybe like a volanteer network as like the volanteer coast guard where ordinary people are approved members. Stickers on boats stating they are members are sure to slow down these culprits .The more eyes out there the better.
qO.......Without a doubt the highest no. of missing pots is due to tidal movement where the unsuspecting crabber doesn,t realise the difference there is in one tide to the next. The pots didn,t drift last week so they shouldn,t and didn,t now....must have been stolen.( I know many blokes who think like this and they r dead wrong) Webby I have been crabbing for ever and I still have to go and look 4 my drifting pots occasionly...especially in areas I am new too, so new crabbers...light weight pots have no chance of staying where u put them in the big movement tides.
Hope this helps mate and I am looking forward to ur feedback. Will catch up with u soon. Pete
ps. there is only one "K" and one "L" in the alphabet Brian

Re: ATTN ALL CRABBERS
G'day Webby,
mate i luv a crab, just for comparison, in NSW we are allowed 5 dillies and 1 trap each. 5 muddies max 20 blueys max. Jennies are alowed but must be returned if they are carrying eggs. Size limits apply on both species.
Cheers

Re: ATTN ALL CRABBERS
Hi Webby,
Stone cold sober (this time?) and yes I do have a bee in my bonnet.
With surveys, the secret to getting the required answer is to ask the right question.
I saw your survey, and my suspicions were aroused. I didn't know who you were, or what your agenda was. Now I do.
So I can read your questions a little more objectively. And now I see that your survey is probably innocuous, depending on what happens to the info after.
If you want a representative answer, you need to avoid asking double barrelled questions that couple a natural yes question, with another question that may not otherwise get a yes, but will.
For example:
K. Would your be in favour of Farmed Crabs to help releive pressure on natural stocks.
Well, everyone wants pressure off natural stocks (except for the ones they catch , so the first question gets a yes when it perhaps does not deserve it.
If the acquaculture does more environmental damage, and leads to less crabs, and other life, than if it was not done, then who needs it? Especially if it attracts millions in subsidies and grants.
So there need to be two questions, 1. less pressure. 2. acquaculture if it is sustainable etc.
Keep up the good work, glad to see you have the drive to get in there and do something for the rest of us. We owe you one.
Rick
