    Birds of Moreton Bay??

    To all the budding ornithologist.

What is the names(common and scientific) of the common birds in Moreton Bay?

My favourite bird are the white terns with the black heads that follow tuna and mackeral. These dive in and fly straight up.

Another common one are the brown birds that skim the water, land on the water then dive down. They look like duck when they are sitting on the water.

    Thanks.

    Wes

the brown birds are mutton birds wes... they are nothing but a pain in the arse! even when you bait is a few meters down its not safe!!!!

ok to be a little more exact
silver gull (normal sea gull)-larus novaehollandiae.
then you have a few different types of terns that look similar
crested tern(sterna bergii),caspian tern (sterna caspia), lesser crested tern(sterna bengalensis)..
and the "mutton birds" i refered to are actually called shearwater's.. once again there are a few different types that all look blody similar to me.
the above birds were looked up in "every australian bird illustrated", they could be wrong but thats what im calling them

    Except for the pointy bill.

    Wes,
What camera are you using, if you don't mind me asking? You seem to have nailed the shot of the flying bird pretty well with everything in focus and just a bit of movement of the birds lower wing. I'm guessing you used manual focus.

A few weeks ago seen us dodging these bloody birds which were everywhere. I also noticed few dead ones which i would say a few poeple didnt successfully dodge or they just aimed for them

Has anyone seen any White Crested Large Breasted Bed Thrashers around that way?
I'm not sure how true it is, but I heard they only hang around boats that cost more than $100,000? ???
