loaded a photo this arvo at 98kb, and it wouldnt accept as being too big ??? compressed it to 95 kb and lost resolution, its under bruns muddy.

Just had a look at the pic. It is 1632 pixels wide, would suggest you resize it to 600 or less.
The reason it rejected it at 98kb is that it was probably 98 point something, then add the fact that it is then uploaded over the internet in ascii the server would have recognised it at over 100kb.
Any, if you resize it it will look OK and people will not have to scoll to see the pic.
Have a look at the section under Help regarding resizing images for uploading to the chat boards.

Steve. Is 600 pixels a good width to get a decent sized photo on screen without having to scroll?

If its a horizonal pic I usually go for 450 wide. If vertical I go 400 high.
