    For interest - illegal fisherman

What do you guys think about this?

    http://news.ninemsn.com.au/National/story_55859.asp

I saw some story on Indonesian fisherman that navigate by the sun/ moon and experience/ knowldge only and therefore have are likely to have no idea on when they are entering Australian waters. Obviuosly some just flaunt the rules regardless.

Saw the article in the paper today.

I can't believe that the ' softly softly' policy is now in place.

Take their gear, take the catch, punch a hole in the boat ( no, not really, too much pollution ).

Bring them back to Oz,$ fine the first time, then jail the next, end of story.

The GBRMPA can't implement new regs ( Fed Govt body ) and then have the Fed Protection services saying, " we can't protect it "./

OK, so they don;t want to tow the boats back to harbour. Tow them to the boundry of our waters/ escort them, whatever. Still sieze their gear and catch.

Get some intelligence going to find out the money men behind the activities, and get protocol in place with the offending Nation, and have these buggas imprisoned !

First it'll be softly softly, on the fishermen, then the people smugglers, then what ? the invading forces ?

Yeah i think the Govt have put this one in the "too hard basket" and just decided to band-aide the problem without getting to roots.

personly i would like to see some of these boats towed back to oz stripped and cleaned and made into artifacial reefs in barean areas for both divers and fisher folk

i'm sure there are resonse why we can't do this but still it would be good to see!

This is something that's been going on since day dot. First thing Phill - we're the ones that pay taxes in order to keep the mother f***ers we've already got, in jail - we don't need more. Personally, I'd prefer to see a pair of FA/18's scrambled to "escort" them to international waters. But of course, we can't do that...we don't want to hurt their feelings.

I've heard in the past that other countries have combatted the situation by meeting them at international waters with food and fuel supplies on the condition that they do not enter national waters. If they do, they are sunk by military vessels.

However I couldn't agree more about the invading force bit - with 201 million of those bastards up there, you can garuntee our feds pussy foot approach is gonna be the down fall one day. Although it would come at a cost to our federal government, more patrols, more policing and more stringent regulations need to be put in place.

Maybe if they stopped allocating funds to shit like putting the bastards in refugee camps, giving them free allowances, provisions, entertainment etc etc then there would be more to go around to stopping the problem in the first place.

I'm not trying to be racist about it, but isn't it about time the government put it's foot down to stop this kind of thing?? Just my ten cents worth.
