I read a few reports about spotties thick in the water off Palm Beach and every man and his dog out there on anything that partially floats. Paddle boards, jetskis etc..
Now for the average boatie to go more than 500 metres offshore, beyond what they call partially smooth waters , you need a EPIRB, radio etc. Wouldn't this also apply to everyone else out there,??? especially the jetskis as they have to be registered and rider lisenced? [smiley=speechless.gif]
I am of course assuming they were more than 500 metres out, it looked at least 2 k from some of the pictures..
Not sure what the rules are in QLD, but only have to carry a radio in NSW if you are going beyond 2 NM I think. Kayaks / surf skis exempt from carrying other safety gear.
No idea about jetskis.
Cheers
Jeff
The regs in Qld are for 2nm, not 500m from shore.
EPIRBS must be carried by all registered vessels this far from shore.
There is no regulation to have a marine radio aboard.
They leave that up to common sense.
I guess some dont have this!
