Police Investigate Shooting – Wisemans Ferry
15, May 2004
One man is dead and another man is in hospital following a shooting in Sydney’s north-west early this morning.
About 2am, police were called to the Walkers Beach ski park on River Road at Wisemans Ferry after reports two men were suffering gunshot wounds.
Witnesses have told police the incident followed an on-going argument overnight between two men, who were at the park to take part in a fishing competition.
Upon police arrival they discovered a 42-year-old man inside a cabin suffering a gunshot wound to the stomach. He has been airlifted to Westmead Hospital where he is understood to be in a stable condition.
Five other men inside the cabin at the time of the shooting were not injured.
The body of a second man, believed to be aged in his 50s, was discovered outside the cabin suffering a gunshot wound to the head. His death is not being treated as suspicious at this stage.
A crime scene has been established and the circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation by Hawkesbury Local Area Command detectives, with police interviewing a number of people staying at the park.
Nobody is being sought in relation to the shootings.
Uncomfirmed report at this stage is that the injured man is John Knols from Knols Native Lures.

Your right (unfrotunately) Fitzy. John was shot in the chest by Joe Priest (backyard lure maker) the Joe turned the gun on himself. It seems alcohol was a contributing factor, but is very out of character for Joe. It's even more of a tragedy when he has 3 young children and his wife has cervical cancer. Seems the world gets madder by the minute. >

Bit more detail in today's Sydney Tele. According to the Tele they had previously entered into an agreement for Priest to make Knols lures (as well as his own) in his plastic injection mould. When his wife fell ill he was unable to keep up with demand & the business was farmed out to Vietnamese producers. Priest believed his lure designs were hijacked & never forgave Knols for the breach of trust.
Knols is now in a induced coma. The bullet has not been removed & his health is a day to day proposition.
I've noticed that people are always having a go at someone else's lures on shame files, plus any other equipment made in someone's backyard or overseas. Thought it was all just friendly rivalry. Guess I was wrong. Anyone know if these people were the ones posting or being talked about there?
Small update in today's Tele. His business partner said he had undergone two operations and multiple blood transfusions, but doctors are yet to remove the bullet. They hope to bring him out of the induced coma today or tomorrow.
following on from "Dasher's" suggestion of financial aid to the victims' families ....there are 2 families , and many victims....not least the children...
A CENTRAL collection point could well be AUSFISH...with an ausfish fund-raising for the families concerned...this would require a bulletin advising all members of the situation , and contributions to flow....both families would need to be assisted.
