    Origin

I know this isnt a fishing related subject but I wonder what is going on with NSW selectors.....
I just heard on the radio that Brad Fittler has accepted a request from Phil Gould to make himself available for selection for NSW origin team. Quoting Phil Gould himself during the coverage of City V Country "If you want to be selected for NSW SOO team, this is the real thing right here". Man of the match in that game was Scott Hill playing at 5/8th. He is in the best form of his career and clearly the best running round at the moment. Phil Kearns (his team mate at Melbourne Storm) has had a huge spit in the newspapers today about how Hill has been overlooked once again, and certainly makes a damn good point. Are NSW serious? geeeeez

I am a Queensland supporter and hope they do well, but at the same time like to see the 2 strongest teams available to show who has the best team on the night. If Queensland was to do the same thing we better get Alf outta his wheelchair and dust him off..... I mean isnt Brad 83 or sumtin?? Or are they THAT scared of Lockyer??
Interested in other peoples views..... as you can see I am not amused
    cheers

Gould is a complete and utter Tosser. [smiley=dunce.gif]
I think he has done NSW a HUGE favour by quitting as SOO coach.
I don't like Ricky Stewart much either , but at least I respect him.

I thought I read somewhere that Scott Hill was injured - but if Phil Kearns was in the paper as you say, then maybe I'm wrong
I can't wait to see the Fittler - Lockyer match up, they're both such great players. It'll be a better game than the first with a lot more attack.

The politics of football guys. And tossers who can't get over the past. Scott Hill is ex super league. Phil Gould hasn't forgiven those who played it. That means there is a huge hypocricy in some of the other selections. But apparantly thats the basis behind it. Or so I am told.

Who were the QLD selectors scared of in 2001 with the suprise selection of Allan Langer?

I totally agree with you on that one. I hated the way they clutched at straws getting Alf back. I mean in that case why would they not give some young bloke a chance at 1/2 back like they did when Langer first come on the scene. I also agree with the post about politics in footy.... sux hard IMO.

    Re: Origin

Bloody oath. I'm not saying I could do a better job than the selectors (well then again...provokes second thoughts on that one), but there's a lot of young hopefuls out there that would dream to play origin. There’re surely young players out there that are capable, even more capable of doing what Allan Langer could do.

As Jeff said, Allan Langer got his start that way, so why give a retired bloke a jumper and force a young and coming bloke to wait? Or is it all to do with the business side of things - impressing the crowds, getting more TV coverage, more attendance at the game, public interest? After all...who's going to attract more public interest, Allan Langer or the new fella on the block? I'd say categorically that the NRL is so commercialised these days it's lost the true reason why the comp is played each week and has been played as ARL in Australia since 1907.

Thems the times...and they are a changin.

Yep good for Qld !! Hate to say it but I think Fittler was a fine player but over-rated. Went MIA a few times in big matches.

The best thing NSW selectors did was to appoint Stuart now before Gould can carry on at the end of the series. I did not think he stood down before they appointed Stuart

Bring back a player from rep retirement ! Very original Gus

    Go the Maroons !!!!!!!!!!

Best thing about NSW is, it keeps the home of the Mexicans further away from QLD

Makes me laugh.... Ricky Stuart and Gus at Easts and now its Ricky Stuart and Gus at NSW....Hope one day Ricky can stand on his own without his puppetmaster. I think Ricky would get more respect if he could coach in his own right.
    Just my opinion tho
