CATCH & RELEASE OR FIT FOR THE PLATE?

HOW MANY OF YOU GUYS ACTUALLY RELEASE THEIR CATCH AFTERWARDS OR DO THEY GO HOME TO THE TABLE

Depends on the type and size of the fish. Obviously, if it's undersize or oversize for that particular species it goes straight back. In my estuary expeditions, big flathead go back, nearly all cod go back, big whiting go back etc. Most times, unless I score enough middle-of-the-road sized fish to feed the family of 5, I don't take them - just no point.

any thing that needs to be measured goes back, some with taggs, when ever possible i always take a feed for all crew and my parents. If a catch more than required for immidate use they go back (apart from a gummy shark, aways like to have some fillets in the freezer). If I catch a species I dont eat they also go back

I like to bring home a feed - the family loves fish.

don't keep any more than 10 tailor & they need to be 35cm, haven't for a couple of years now, won't keep a bream under 30cm.

i personally try to practise catch and release 99.9999% of the time.. BUT.. i do still live at home with my folks and cop alot of s*$& from them if i dont bring home a couple of fish every trip.. would personally love to put the fish back.. but when youve been told.. you do it heh.. but even then.. they might only get 3 or 4 bream every 4 or 5 trips.. i catch plenty more then that.. so im not really harvesting them

i catch enough for a feed and release the rest as forzen is a very third best to fresh . better a photo than to kill a big fish.

i'm like timbo and send 99.9999% back for another day but on those odd ocasions when i'm a bit peckish for a freash feed of fish i will keep a few but even then it is only enoght for that night no more
theres only one thing that never get released from my grip and thats a nice jucie peaice of steak

Fishing is for fun & food. We eat fish at least twice a week, so I always keep any good edible species and nothing ever goes to waste. [smiley=chef.gif] Anthing that needs to be measured or is not that good eating gets released [smiley=thumbsup.gif]. I have also changed my own attitude over time and now release anything that is too big - they dont eat well anyway and with a camera and scales on board, you can still get a snap to claim bragging rights.

With really big fish, it is sometimes hard to convince deckies to release them. In the end, if they catch it and it is legal, I reackon it is their call - if I catch it then it is going back. Each to their own and all personal views are respected on the good ship SeaSaw as long as it is within the law.

ditto with most comments.
i like catch and release. mostly but also have set bigger size limits for myself for other stuff. like flathead like 50-65cm as keepers, but only 2, bream dont keep any. Tailor, love tailor but40+ is a keeper.
mackeral keep bag limit, squire 35cm is a tad small but will keep in live well to see i can better it before return.
love fishing but not a great fish eater, hate the bones in small fish, that said sometimes its hard to fillet the ( Car door ) if the fish is too big.

but have been guilty of cricket scores in some reefies when younger. Now happy with a nice feed and Photo.
