    WELLINGTON POINT RESERVE MASTER PLAN

Just recieved this in my e-mail
In May 2004 Council resolved to defer the adoption of the Wellington Point Master Plan and to undertake works to encourage better usage of the eastern portion of the reserve. The work is to also include refurbishment of existing infrastructure and installing speed reduction platforms throughout the reserve.
Council’s decision was made following consideration of all the issues raised during the long and comprehensive consultation undertaken as part of this project. From this consultation a number of consistent messages were heard from the community by Council. These issues were as follows:
    • Retain the character of the reserve
    • Improve pedestrian traffic and improve pedestrian safety
    • Improve facilities
    • Retain boat access to the bay and parking
    • Reduce speeding/hooning
Council is now finalising the costs and extent of the improvement works to be undertaken in accordance with Council’s resolution. Once finalised, Council will advise you of the extent of works proposed to commence in the new financial year

I would like to thank you for your contribution to the project and ongoing commitment to the enhancement of the reserve. Should you have any questions, please contact Council’s Project Officer – Landscape Architect, Jennifer Newland on 3829 8946.

    Yours sincerely,

    Gary Photinos
    Manager Environmental Management.

as one of the best located launching points of the bay its a [s]sham[/s] errr shame the state government doesn't locate a water police station in the precinct - would stop a lot of hoon problems & increase security; in my humble opinion.

It is an exposed point though & I guess that would cost dollars though out of our boating rego that would be better spent on blown out footbridge budgets & refurbished ensuites in the executive building.

Chris i beleive that is one of the points i bought up, with increased traffic, more theft / damage to our vehicles whilst out fishing. They actually rang me before sending the email, i believe they are sending a plan snail mail, if so i will scan and post here.
    cheers

Interesting topic this, given that i sit on both side of the fence in a way. Being a boaty, but also enjoying getting out in the car and enjoying a drive with mates. The biggest thing is there needs to be security there... because its such a tucked away little place its a great little getaway for the car scene, but at the same time if you clear the car scene away from it and have a great spot for boaties it causes a concern for security.

The area already has a reputation for its youth causing problems and i don't think its an option to have no security there.

Unfortunately the car scene has been given a bad name over the years by a minority group that do act in a dangerous way, and if there were security there then it may just weed out the bullshit that goes on there, and also keep the ramp safe for boaties... unfortunately hopes and dreams don't pay security gaurds wages.

i'm amused & appreciate your frankness & honesty.

Why do the car scene think its a great little getaway ?

C'mon topender ... If all the cars were street legal, not going to be "tested" out then why the need for a getaway.

"The carscene" ... shall we just not mince words & call it street racing / hooning is one of the many antisocial behaviours that occupy police patrols times & minimise any chance they have of patroling boat ramps etc.

Its not just making cars look pretty - its making cars capable & testing that capability & SHOWING IT OFF to others.

And your presence in the crowd as some w@#ker smokes a set of tyres in a public carpark compounds the problem.

Have you honestly never witnessed at these events such behaviour, or speeding etc

    Chris...

Unfortunately too many people have this image of Fast & Furious type car scenes... while that does happen in Brisbane, i'm not a part of that and pretty much think its rather pointless and stupid to carry on with street racing, burnouts, donuts and so on in public places.

Unfortunately you're right... the traffic branch of the police are tied up with these dickheads who do race, who do burnouts in shopping centre car parks, and do drift around local streets.

There are two types of groups out there though. You have these guys who drive their import cars with more gadgets than you can poke a stick at, then there are the guys who have nice cars (and sometimes not nice cars) and just enjoy the company of mates who like to talk cars, and drive to enjoy it, and doing it safely at the same time.

I'm not going to deny that i haven't done a burnout in a public car park.. i'm not proud of it, and i've never done it since then. So to answer that question, i have seen it, i know it happens and it is a problem yes... but i don't think its fair to brand everyone a hoon because they enjoy socialising with cars.
