I am looking at buying a new reel for Bream/bass fishing, I am looking at spending around $150. Will be mainly casting 4ish gram poppers. Am I better off getting a little threadline or a baitcaster, What reels do you all recomend. Thanks Sean![]()

I would get a threadline (but my opinion), easier for casting, easier for long luring sessions as well.

Yeh a spinning reel would be best. There are heaps and heaps of different little spinning reels out there that would suit this type of fishing. Look at the shimano 1500 - 2000 reels aswell as the different daiwas. They all have pros and cons.
If you are only buying a reel I'm guessing you already have the rod? if this is the case the choice of reel will be goverend by this,a baitcaster won't work properly on a spining rod and vice versa. What ever you decide on,there should be some good specials at the new tackle shop opening tomorrow in Ballina.
Think it opens next weekend Banshee, already been in there twice and he hasn't even got a lure on the wall yet!!Seems like a nice bloke but.
yep your right,I turned up a week early.
Sean
I would go along the lines of a small threadline, such as Shimano Sahara or similar.
As Banshee says take your rod with you when you buy so you can get a reel that balances comfortably. Makes a day casting softies or light lures much more pleasant.

I'm with you, Agnes_Jack. Would consider a Sahara or similiar, but to avoid any confusion or disappointment, take your rod with you. [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]
if u can get a bit more money have a look at a little shimano stradic. Will set ya back about $230 but if not have a look at a daiwa kastor or laguna
Got to back you on that jewies ...the stradic is a mighty fine little eggy ......smooth as silk..just what you want for ultra light without spending an arm and a leg
gotta dissagree with both of you there. I think shimano make unbeleiveable overhead reels, however in the eggbeaters I think they are overpriced piles of crap!! sure they feel great in the shops, but a few years ago I bought a Regal-z for $120 my mate bought a stradic for $225. both me and him will never buy a shimano egg beater again. The antireverse mechanism went, the drag ratchet went, the bail arm mechanism went, all in the space of 18 months. Now I admit, we overfish our reels something shocking, however we only ever fished together, and the misstreatment his reel got mine got as well, and the regal-z outlasted that reel3-1 at least. just my experience though.thanks for the input though![]()
Sean
are the Kastor and Laguna higher than the regal series?![]()

or you could go an abumatic they are great little reels and a perfect size for bream or bass
10 year warranty on the Shimano's
