Only time I've seen ghost crabs has been in there tens of thousands along the beach at fingal heads about 5 to 10 years ago. ??? Theye weren't they only type of crab either, there was there huge coral crab type things that can out of the water
Not sure where you would get them on the brisbane area (there would probably be some down the gold coast), but there's heaps of those rock crab things on rocky outcrops around brisbane.
Catching them is easy, just run fast , very fast

Mate, just walk along any rocky foreshore, and lift a few rocks, thats where they hide.(sleepy/blacks/and other names), ghost crabs are only found on the ocean beachs, mainly up towards the dunes, and its best just before the suns up, otherwise there back in there holes for the day)
The boat passage/wynumm foreshore/raby bay/peel/1 mile/myora and redland forshore or wellington pt.
All these areas have rock crabs, just watch out for the babies muddies, as you often find a few, and there the last thing you want to be caught with.

Try horseshoe bay at peel. Just follow the tracks or slowly approach the holes and if they are sitting just inside hole, dive and cut off under hole with a shovel. Pleanty at times at wave braek island also. I'm sure everyone knows spots to find billions of soilder crabs if interested.
Theres lotsa ladies at Newfarm that can give you crabs.
I have read that you can catch ghost crabs by diging a hole the size of a bucket, put the bucket in and fill in around the bucket so that the top is level with the surounding sand and bait with pilly,do a few of these and check periodicly through the night.
just make sure it's up in the junes so as when grandmar walks along the beach at midnight she doesn't kill herself
Mate Bribie Island surf side has got shitloads at night around 7pm onwards.
What are you useing them for? cobia, parrot, snapper?

just inside the caloundra end of the passage, actually on Bribie Island, those soldier crabs are there in their millions. It's like watching a black mass move across the sand at once. My partner freaks out when she sees it. get them on a low tide in the morning, doesn't have to be dawn, and there are som many, that you just have to walk along with a bucket and pick them up by the handful. Keep topping the water up with fresh salt every few hours and they'll last ages.
Good huntin' [smiley=bandana.gif]

Wife's stockings and a bit of bait, the crabs just get tangled and caught in the stocking material.
Just remember to wash the stocking before putting them back OK
