Oh yes
My comment to KC about 2 days a year fishing was said with tongue in cheek.

No it's not is it but somehwhere roughly similar to the RAP submissions and was much notice taken of those submissions, No obviously not so but then was anybody actually expecting that....30,000 out of all the voters in Queensland isnt a lot...
As usual if there are any FACTS that might further advance much of the misguided reasoning then please put them forward, otherwise it's simply more talking the talk.
Cheers, Kerry.
Not having a go at ya Derek, but my opinion is that if my Children or should i say Grandchildren havent got fish ta catch in the future it wont be because there arent any there for em ta catch but because they will be outa reach for them because.
(a) Some minority group has had it there way fully in the end.
(b) Far too many closed off areas and aint worth the effort for them.
(b) Too costly to even worry about, hence cheaper ta just go buy a feed and feck!! the hassle of trying ta catch em or persue the Passtime weve come to enjoy so much today....
And!!! it is the viewe now of many, that it just aint worth the effort allready, costwise or otherwise..
Mentioned it in another post and i'll say it again but pumpin yabbies and usin live bait aint too far from bein targeted as well(under Cruelty!!!)..
As well as usin plastics is akin to plastic bags floatin about in the oggin...
Wander what the future will bring for just the Sports Fisho who wants to catch n release, far as it bein classed as cruel???....
Argue among ourselves and not show a bit of a united front as far as the passtime goes and all the above are a good possibillty and ya know who benefits then dont ya ..
Each to their own, Live n let Live and a bit of a united front and then maybe our kids will be able ta still have a viable passtime.....
Cheers and do respect your point of viewe and wouldnt impose my feelings on you or anyone esle...
Derek
And good on you for sticking you neck out. I wish more people would (even if I disagree with them)
You surmise that there were a lot of votes by people who just had a card stuck in their hand on poling day.
The best information I have been able to gather is below I believe it is accurate.
TFPQ printed 40,000 How to vote cards - and got 29,000 votes, not all from the 20 booths (appx) that were manned. Booth Volunteers were more common in areas where the feeling was strongest - so it’s hard to say that HTV cards made a difference. I think the card alone made no difference, because in one Southern booth where there was a volunteer – the vote was very ordinary.
Yet in Weipa – miles away from the Reef the vote was 20.6%.
I would also ask the question: how many voters for Liberal and Labor and Green and Nationals had actually read the Party Policy platform? At least TFPQ had published theirs in Fishing magazines. And you had KC on Ausfish a lot.
During the election and even since I have been unable to even contact my local member - let alone the PM!
I am still concerned that you are 100% opposed to The Fishing Party. Have you in fact read all of their policies?
Conservation and preservation are certainly what I hear KC say we need - like the barramundi closed season was great for the species.
In fact, Policy Number ONE is
1. OVERRIDING POLICY: The Fishing Party opposes any and all unsustainable or illegal fishing practices in Australian waters.
Unsustainable fishing is interpreted as desirable conservation first priority.
- are you still opposed to all the Fishing Party stands for?
And as far as the Barrier Reef is concerned TFPQ’s written policy is that the zoning be overhauled (not removed)
Which part of that do you disagree with?
I heard the Minister, Ian MacDonald say to a group of 30 just last Wednesday that the PM had announced a review of GBRMPA that they had learned a lot of lessons that management had followed their own agenda and more had been closed off than he had expected to see. And that he would try to look at the Bundaberg zoning (where 75% is closed off)
So
Liberals had planned to review GBRMPA
Nationals too want to see changes
And at least one Labor Senator pushed for this in the Senate 3 months ago
... and so is TFPQ
The Democrats say that 33% closure is a start but they want to see 50% by 2015
Greens: I could not find any direct statement.
- are you still opposed to all the Fishing Party stands for ?
Send me an email and I will send you the whole policy document copy I have.

And now, after listening to the ABC the other night..TFP gave preferences to the Nationals for a deal that will now not happen..might as well have given preferences to those right wing nit wits..FFP.
A fullraft of policies is essential to have any credibility as a political party.

I'd say since we climbed down out of the trees and most of us learned to use our opposing thumbs to hold a spear!!!!!!!!
Hunting is a natural human instinct.

Cheers, Kerry.
In a sense ever since middle management goverment positions became 2 to 5 year contracts with continuation based on performance. Every official is looking to fix what is not broke just to get another few years almost always to the general publics disadvantage.nqSo since when was fishing not been a natural human right?
You are right there Volvo and in my view the Fishing Party is just that, one of those minority groups.Originally Posted by Volvo

I think there is a huge difference Tony, between an instinct and a human right.

Another sensible argument from those opposed to Fishing
I think some people are on the wrong forum.
Stick to something you know about,.

awww Tony, thats not fair, we are all entitled to air our opinions, gee just because we don't like em but i will still stand by what i said earlier, this is going to creep as far south and into moreton bay. then we may see a snapper farm, as the government will have the excuse to give it the go ahead if we are not allowed to fish for them. Somewhere here i have a book printed in 1966 that states " if commercial and professional fishing is not reined in, we will not have a sustainable fishing industry in the future" I will try and find it and scan and post it. The report was from a seminar, chaired by then world famous scientists from various countries, that stated Australia was heading this way. So in hindsight (what a lovely word) if bag limits were placed back then, and the selling of fish by rec fishers at the market was stopped before the middle seventies, maybe we would not be where we are now. Food for thought. Oh btw, i was one of the guilty rec fishers who use to sell fish legally at the Qld fish market.
cheers
Joe.
Airing opinions is great.
Making threats cause you disagree is another in my opinion.

Hope this does not degenerate into personalities rather than issues. I know pinhead is opposed to TFPQ but for sound ideological reasons about 1 issue parties & I also know he has followed progress for a long time and makes his judgement from an informed position. Derek I think you are making your judgement from an uninformed position...a bit like supporting the GBR zoning plans and maps, while actually never having seen 1. If you look at the policies of this ogranisation and then feel, for an ideological or policy reason, you are opposed to us...fine. But please do your homework first. In no way what-so-ever, do our policies call for destructive fishing practices.
As to me being the "spokesman" for reef fishing and only going out twice a year. Personally, I'm a creeks man. I am also the authorised spokesperson for the party but our reef policy was developed from membership input, not by me. Many of our 1200 members are reef fishers, some are freshwater and lots are bread and butter creek and beach fishers. At the end of the day, we are trying to develop a membership base which covers every form of rec fishing and even have some spearos on board.
Regards
KC
KC i cant see it "degenerate into personalities rather than issues" as Tony stated (correct me if i am wrong) he saw it as "Making threats cause you disagree is another in my opinion" i didnt see it like that. but then when you look into chat boards and people all being individuals, will interpret something different to others, this is what makes us unique as humans, and can lead to some great debates and possible answers. What do you think? now getting back to the subject, is this story just a cover up, to confuse people so the left hand doesnt know what the right hand is doing? and another question, how can costello say it will not be looked into (the rezoning) and howard says he will, is howard getting ready to stand aside for costello? oh oh.
cheers
Joe.
KC
At the time I first commented on this issue I had not seen a full copy of the Zoning Plans for the reef but was basing my comments on State Government Zoning Plans as my initial comments were in regard to the State Government announcements on the beach closures.
I have since seen the GBR Zoning Plans and the Maps and they follow the same parliamentry process as the state ones so my comments stand. By the way, contrary to your comments, they were/are published on the Internet and have been right since it was first introduced. I have found out that they were/are also readily available to the public at EPA Offices state wide.
None of my comments are intended as a personal assault on anyone but at the issues being discussed. I withdraw and apologise for the smartass quip about you fishing twice a year on the reef.
Cheers.
