Good to hear Daintree. What a wan*er to first of all steal 'em, but then keep puting me back int he same spot. I hope he gets what he deserves.

Well the good news is we got the pots back!! The idiot kept rebaiting them and setting them in the same stretch of water. Anyway he's been reported to the relevant authorities and we have our gear back. I can only imagine he does this often as it was so blatant and he kept going back to the same area to reset them, the hide >

Try putting a brick in the bottom of the pot and sewing a couple of black Gamakasu hooks about half way up the rope.
They pull them up and get a nasty surprise. This was done up a Bundy a few years back with a very effective result
Honest? They were stealing his crabs!Originally Posted by basserman

yeh but it was the unwritten rule going back some years now that if you wanted a feed of muddies but didn't have the trap the old six pack was the excange for one
$50 ??? well i would think that would more than cover a few
i know i would be just as happy to put a pot up with $50 than one with a few muddies
mate got 3 pro pots floged from near the pin 2 weeks back a very costly 2 nites
what sort of criminals are we breeding when they raid other peoples pots but dont take jennys(sumsing a little FRUEDIAN about dat) dont ya rekon..
It's all too true - there are a lot people out there who just don't respect other peoples property.
I get my pots robbed all the time by the bloody kids I teach and they tell meabout it on monday and there is nothing I can do. They laugh I get cranky but at least it gives me a reason to put them back out again.
I have started sinking pots lately using a brick and about 4 metres of rope attached to the pot. Drag the brick out from the pot then use a reef anchor to pull them in. GPS is usful but I only do this in creeks without a lot of run. I know guys who have made gant pots like about 3 mtres long by about 2 metres wide and sink them permanetly this way with about 3 chickens for bait.
This is the only way to ensure a feed sometimes how sad it is

Had 8 pots stolen from the pin last weekend >
I'd prefer if people didn't touch my pots at all in the first place...Originally Posted by basserman
Anyone around the pin should get over it, I can remember stolen or raided pots being an issue back in the 70's. When you go to the trouble of going up creeks and drains in very light traffic areas or spots inaccessable at low tide & then still get beaten to the crabs really shits me. I've just loaned 8 pots to a mate to take on hols with, 4 have never hit the water. Wont tell you where he's gone incase the share farmers look at this site too!
The mate I loaned the pots to just got back and brought me a nice muddy. Only put 4 pots out twice due to weather and too scared to leave them out overnight, for 20 crabs. Who wants to know where he went.
Saw a pro fisherman in a 25ft plate mono hull Tbone a couple of young blokes side on in a 17ft SeaFairer out from fisherman Island once for pulling his pots. The Oar battle that raged afterwards was Quite a spectical while whiting fishing. Alot of damage and sore heads for a couple of sandies. Maybe they thought twice the next time a lonely float presented itself.
