Nice reply VP3 (Ian). Sounds like you come from the same stock as TheCommodore. You blokes must be a real nice bunch.

Have to agree there - There is no need for remarks like that

The guy only asked some questions - spirited debate is a good thing and you guys are very passionate about the subject which is great. Commercial interests - can you elaborate more ?

Full marks to Darren and Lloyd for their replies [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

    Hey Greg,

    Thanks for the reply.

Commercial interests relate to a recent company now competing with VMR in the field of marine assistance and rescues.

It seems this company has had some feelers on this site posting bad and untrue posts about the VMR and Coast Guard units in this area.

It has left a sour taste in my mouth after recieving an abusing PM, but it doesnt phase me one bit. Just shows their true colours and proves where their interests lie.

    Regards
    Darren

I genuinely feel very sorry for the Commodore after having read of all that he has given and how much that has cost him personally. I have never met the man, nor have I met the new Queenslander, Rodbender. I am sure that they are both gentlemen. But I do think that these chat boards are here for all to use, the informed, and the not so informed, and I don't think it to be reasonable or appropriate for a newcomer (or anyone for that matter) to be responded to with such venom. If a person can't ask a civil question in here where the hell are they supposed to go to?

    Cheer up Commodore

Jeremey's comments very much reflect my own thoughts, previous posts from some of these blokes leaves me with the impression that they consider the genneral boating/fishing public as little more than a pain in the arse, maybe they could form a splinter group......it could be called "The Self Righteous Mutual Admiration Society" meetings could be once a month and they could piss in each others pockets 'till their hearts content. For the record,I am not part of some commercial threat and I do suport the local (NSW)groups who thankfully are not of the same ilk as some of your volunteers.

Rick_K, I have sent you a pm with a few details etc... good luck with which ever group and unit you do consider joining.

Rick, like all groups/units and their members their will be things, comments and proceedures you will disagree with and agree with, some strongly... its just life.... roll with the punches and forgive and forget, try to change what you think is wrong by following processes, remember to give a pat on the back to those who deserve it when you feel that things are going good... frustration will build untill it reaches the point where someone may let loose as they reach a stage that they can see a decline in standards, assistance or public attitude...almost all are really top men and women whom mean well and we cant always agree on everything done or not done, nor should we. After a really bad day will normally come a good one.... highs and lows of the buissiness when a lot is, and will be expected of you.
    All the best

You crack me up Darren, where's the bloody hug smiley!!

I didn't read the initial post as impertinent, so the response felt a bit "spirited" I have full respect from the knowledgeable people who have responded though.

We don't need personal attacks on this site but lately there has been a bit of crap around. Lost a few shitty posts in the great site crash of 05 but I have gotten personal abusive PM's from new members. Buggered if I know why..

I understand pain and frustration but I hope we can raise the bar on the personal stuff. I used to be the king of stupid questions ok, but I need to ask stupid questions to rectify my stupid level to averagely informed...

For all the knockers, how about joining a VMR/Coast Guard group and 'walk a mile in their shoes'

Re: Can anyone answer these questions about VMR/co

I would love to find out how many of the active boating public is actually affiliated
with a VMR either by actively or not.

Is there any such information collected by the government?
