This the latest info I have from the HMAS BRISBANE Association

The important news with the sinking is that it has now been put back to Sunday 17th July, 2005 – I have to say though, that it is the feeling of both Kerry Kerr and myself, that a further delay of seven days is highly probable, and so, Sunday 24th July is a good bet. If the date expands out after the 24th, then it is a case of who knows when, as the overseas based demolition contractor is only available from the 10th to the 24th, and a new time frame will have to be set up to suit his new availability period.

I will endeavor to inform you of further changes to the program as soon as possible, and I would suggest holding off making any non-refundable bookings for the nest couple of weeks.

    Re: HMAS Brisbane

It's going to be a great asset to the sunshine coast when it's sunk, but i'm worried by a statement on the epa website.
"The Queensland Government does not want the development and ongoing management of the Brisbane Artificial Reef to be an additional cost for the State. As such, fee arrangements will be in place ensure management of the site is self-sustaining."
Does this mean that to visit and dive the wreck, one is going to have to pay?!?!?!
    I hope not.

    CJ,

How does $20 per person sound - seriously.

And from the look of it you will be booking 3-4 months in advance. It's going to be very very very popular and there's only a couple of private permits issued for every day.

    check out the info here

    Bugman,
That sounds fine with me. I served for 4 years on the old girl and cannot wait for the opportunity to visit her at her final resting place. I dont mind having to pay for this as long as a portion of the money goes back into Queensland fisheries. It would be a terrible injustice if the Queensland Government and or private companies made money off this without passing something on to the organisations who manage this resource that many of us enjoy on a regular basis. (some enjoy much more than others.......bastards)

    GDay Darren,

No money going back to fisheries - fisheries are not allowed to have anything to do with it as it will be a complete marine reserve.

The EPA unit is running/handling the whole saga and will recoup the great amount of the money - with the odd bit going back to Govt coffers of course

I'm looking forward to getting wet on her myself.
