Fresh is best. yes i would pay a little more because taste is every thing.But you cant keep fresh fish for long!

no i would get the fish fresh everyday as ulladulla is only 30 mins drive. so there would still be jumping.

i just brought a take away at bathaven would you pay a little more for fresh fish or less for frozen.my brother hase a trawler in ulladulla so i would get all my fish from him. aslo what fish do you like.thanks for the help.

More for fresh and less for frozen is the same option . I like tasty fishies like mac tuna .

Agreed - pay more for fresh. Just so long as it is fresh, not like a lot of the prawns on sale that have been frozen then thawed and sold as fresh.

Don't you just love the seafood at Woolies and Coles - the sign says "thawed for your convenience" - um, who's convenience??? Would rather buy it still frozen in that case.

As long as you you clean and freeze fresh fish it will be good when you defrost and use it.
when you buy fish especially the cheap imported stuff when you read the outside of the cartons some is filleted and frozen at sea. some is frozen and filleted when the boats get into port some of the fish is farmed in third world countries ??.
you have no control over it.
With the tourists around the place you would be better to put up signs to say your using fresh fish from your brothers boat. name the boat tourists love that sort of stuff.

I have a mate who used to fish on a boat based at Darwin. After all of the supplies were loaded the boat would set off on a course 240 nm from Darwin. It was a commercial fishing boat and so deckies were expected ( and did ) fish from daylight to dark. The caught fish were gutted and gilled and iced down. The boat would stay out for 11 days and return on the twelfth. Once inside, the skipper would take the crew to the pub for the rest of the night. Next day, the 13th day, the fish were unpacked and flown to Sydney and Melbourne fish markets and sold as 'Fresh Fish'. The mongers and the like would buy them, display them in their fridges as ' fresh fish' and maybe take a day or three to sell them.
This practice still continues. The moral to the story is how you look after your catch! This alone completely determines how long it will last. Anyone who buys 'fresh fish' and thinks it was only caught yesterday will be usually be very much mistaken.
