Who dives - SCUBA?
Hey all, I realise this is a fishing site and maybe diving and fishing are chalk and cheese??? maybe - but in my family we all love fishing and the ocean and subsequently we have an interest in diving to see whats down there!
We are old time fishing peeps whom are relatively new and inexperienced divers. My question is: is there any other fishos who mix the two past times together or should the two never meet??
Divers complain about fishos and I am sure fishos have similar frustrations however are we pretty similar - Anyhoo if there are any others in South East Qld who do fish and dive and want to compare notes knots or dive tables just drop us a line be it a a wreck dive line or be it some braid on a TSS4!!

Re: Who dives - SCUBA?
I fish and dive (and hunt as well).
It does get a mixed reception in dive resorts though.

Re: Who dives - SCUBA?
Yeah it's amazing how many hunters are out there but nobody seems to talk about it much.
I'm in the scenario where I've got bugger all places to go any more. Most of the places I used to go have either been shut down or people have sold the properties I used to shoot on.
Maybe we could have a hunting/camping M&G - I know there would be a few people interested.
I've been wanting to do a rabbit trip to northern New South Wales for ages but things just seem to get in the road.

Have been known to stick the head under from time to time!!
Good way to learn the habits of the species you wish to target with a rod.

I do as well, when not thumping stumps with lures or boats! Also work in the dive industry for one of the major brands. Love my fishing and diving.

Re: Who dives - SCUBA?
I know it this thread was supposed to be about scuba diving and hunting just shown up.
But it is a good subject as well.
I am curious what do you actually hunt for in Australia, I'm under the impresion that there are not too many large mammals there.
It also seems that the hunting you guys do is very different from what and how we do in Poland where I come from.
(No hunting in China where I live, too many people around)

Re: Who dives - SCUBA?
Yep, there's quite a few of us
I think that's what got me blowing bubbles was being curious about the things I was catching. Been diving since the eighties
and yeah, szopen is right, you want to watch what you say in certain areas. Particularly some scuba chat sites. There's those that think fish are friends, and then there's the rest of us.

Re: Who dives - SCUBA?
Me too.
Cant catch those crays on a line, just got to get wet and have a good look around.
Just bought a new mask from the states to help diving with ear problems, I am yet to test it as the water temp is still pretty cold in Tas (also the air temp), will report on it as soon as I do.
Cheers Andy.

Re: Who dives - SCUBA?
I my case it is not only what you say online.
As both me and wife dive we usually spend holidays in some diving resort. At 9 in the morning you come back from the fishing trip and the rest of people are getting ready to dive....
They do get used to it after few days. Most of them.

Re: Who dives - SCUBA?
Hey there out there everywhere! Cool as
Maybe a furum for Diving and or Hunting would get more hits than the off road or camping?
Stumpthumpa what brand do you push if that can be asked here? I wear Dacor my son Mares/Dacor, my lady SEAC sub.
I have to say there is a fair difference between us whom fish and dive and us whom just dive in the community in regards to fish are freinds or fish are dinner. Dont get me wrong I release most fish I catch, but I love a feed and can also appreciate the beauty of the ocean!
szopen - In Australia the majority of hunting is wild pigs and goats though there is certainly good deer hunting for seven spieces of them - all non native. There are lots of rabbits and foxes mainly in the southern states and theres allways the occasional Kangaroo shot (wether right or wrong).

Re: Who dives - SCUBA?
Norm,
I have you and your son covered brandwise, but to not push any brand. I work more on the support side with tech training, military and some other things.
I no longer comment on the diver vs fisho thing or fish are friends - been done to death. If you want to hug them, that is Ok with me - same if you want to eat them, again, OK by me. I will be diving in the next few weeks and then heading to Faust to prop up the local tackle industry mid October for a few weeks!
