    Catching Mackerel

On the way back from another great Morton fishing adventure, we spotted many schools of mackerel boiling around. Being a little bit of a novice to mackerel chasing we experimented. First charging toward the school and cutting the engine and drifting into them…….spooked them!! > Trolling around them so our lures went through the middle of the school…..nothing!! > Crept up on them at around 5kts anticipating their movement. This seemed to work as they were all around the boat. We then bombarded them with lures….nothing . As we picked up a good feed near Morton, we gave up and headed home.

So how the hell do you catch these fish!!

Yep those tiny little 15g to 40g slugs in different colours including chrome just cant be beaten. Yeah sure the 50g to 150g look good to us but to the fish its different. Ever heard the saying,

big hook = big fish & small hook = all fish.

well in my experience its very true.

    Cheers
