The RSPCA is shocked and appalled at the use of live dogs and cats as bait in shark fishing, reported recently on the island of Réunion in the Indian Ocean.
It is understood that stray animals are rounded up by local fishermen for the purpose.
RSPCA International senior programme manager Paul Littlefair says: "This is one of the most disturbing practices that we've come across. The use of a live animal in this way, apparently involving the binding of its legs with wire and piercing of the muzzle with large hooks, is unjustifiably cruel.
"Given Réunion's status as a French overseas département, we strongly urge the French government to take immediate steps to enforce its animal protection legislation and end this inhumane practice. Members of the public should address their concerns to the French embassy to help bring this cruelty to an immediate halt."
and 20,000 dead pakis/kasmiri's/indians, in an earthquake doesn't get a mention!
wheres' the yanky's now?
wow i hope i'm reborn as a dog owned by billo'
hahahaaaaaa.
damon
that pic is out of context it is of a dog that hooked itself trying to steal bait, it appeared in a vet journal about three years ago, there's some more info on the story behind it here http://www.snopes.com/critters/crusader/sharkbait.asp, i emailed the rspca site about that photo yesterday and it;s still up but naturally they'd havce to investigate it for themselves, but i gotta say i don;t see the point of using dead dogs for shark bait anyway, can;t see how it would be any better than more traditional techniques,
now youput it in that contex and further investigation of the photo , looks like it could be unrelated ....look like grannies hnds more then fisherman hands at close inspection
seriously though , the thought that actually happening no matter in what numbers is
yeah i agree any sort of pointless cruelty like that really gets to me, i agree with warrior put a hook through them see what we catch, that being said there's an awful lot of cultures that think it;s fine to skin dogs alive for when preparing them for food, etc,
I'm not wanting to get into an argument, but which cultures skin dogs alive for food, and why would anyone want to, considering it would be a lot harder to skin a live dog than a dead one?
if they are french they wont listen to a thing anyone else says, bit they might listen to Jay and his viusals - hehehehe nice one jay, ur pics always crack me up
