Jay it's a soft plastic lure that you rig weightless / weedless and work through the top water for fish such as Kingies / barra / trevally etc. Basically they are just an unweighted stickbait.

They're made by a company called lunker-city in the U.S of A. It's the white thing hanging off my line in the photo mate!

Why do Fish sometimes just Lay back & think of Eng

Hi All and A Very Merry Xmas to YOU!

Recently went for a fish in the seaway and hooked a nice lil kingy on a sluggo, with fairly hard drag setting, amongst a shitload of bait at prime time dawn. This lil bastard did nothing .... absolutely not a cm off the spool or a tug for freedom on the line. I tailed it to bring it on board and it didn't flick a beat!! I've had undersize flathead fight harder!! This was my only fish that morning and it was like winding in a plastic bag!! Very disappointing. These fish on lures with heavy drag usually fight like stink for their size and hit a lure like a train.

Of late we've noticed several fish doing this offshore as well .. including a big bull Dollie I recently posted in reports, that didn't jump once, or pull any line and just swam to the boat!!

The kingy shown looked healthy, as was that Dollie, and other fish I've had which were the same. I released that King although I almost felt like blocking him over the head just so His lazy-arse gene's wouldn't be propogated!!

So why do fish do this folks?? Any patterns noticed?? What do you think??

(Is it obvious I'm bored and quiet at work???)

Warmer water, lower oxygen levels? Just a guess. I am not sure what the normal range is for these fish.

    Experience.

They know that they will be released so why bother fighting.

    Franco,
If you don't mind me asking...What's a sluggo?

    Jay

Maybe he had a feed of something that didn't agree with him

I hooked a big yellowtail kingy off old Woman Island while trolling I thought I had a lump of seaweed. No fight just a dead weight on the line as I reeled him in.

Untill I saw him and he saw me at the same time then all hell broke loose!!

Thank feck! I thought it was a banana Perhaps *that's* why the fish surrendered?

It might have been raised where I live, so has a 'laid back' attitude!!!

Seems the most logical answer to me.

Fishing with my dad out from Moruya one morning... we were heading off to drift his favourite flathead spot so I decided to run a CD14 out the back, the rod bent over (sort of) and I suggested we had picked up some seaweed.

Turned out to be a Yellow Tail King, an absolute whimp, same as yours! Didn't fight at all.

Glad they are not normally like that.

    Cheers Roz

Yeah Rob those Kingies from the seaway taste like shit in my opinion so they always go back. Some of them have that mushy flesh parasite and some don't .. but they all taste pretty average if you ask me.

Anyone else think it's related to the "Mushy Flesh" sexually transmitted disease??!!

My hair-do that day seems to have more favour as a diagnosis so far LOL. Hey folks let up it was windy!

Juicy: Ya didn't have to be so quick to agree with me!!
