    Yamba Offshore

Hi, planning to go down to Yamba in the next week and wondering if anyone could help with some advice on a close offshore reef to the entrance of the bar. I like bluewater fishing but don't like to travel too far as I only have a smaller boat. Also, does anyone know what it's like bottom bashing along inside the bar entrance and up the river entrance (where the breakwalls are. Is it worthwhile?

    Thanks in advance, Craig

    Hi Craig,

Mate, you could ask Wise67 (see his posts re the charter boat on the beach).

He lives there and I'm sure he'd only be too happy to help you with some spots.

Gerard, hope I'm not being too presumptuous in putting your name forward.

    Re: Yamba Offshore

Hi, at the moment the fishing is on hold except in the river and not near the walls as the seas are high: blowing pretty steady east by sou east, large waves are breaking in Dump Beach which is the little beach at the Iluka wall river side, normaly this is the beach where the toddlers swim.

No offshore for a few days I expect.

Clarence River offers good fishing, there is a guide in most shops available here showing the secret spots. Harwood bridge i hear is good for jewies, being the week befor full moon i expect the bite to be on.

Reports of cobia in the river, a couple weeks ago i caught one while getting livies from the river, funny it was pulling like crazy and when i saw what it was i knew why. Same night I got two large catfish around 6-8kg good fun on light tackle but not what i was targeting.

if one could fish the headlands there are large cobes and lots of tailor around, at least they were befor the storm and rain started a few days ago. Rumour of a massive King caught, i saw a 4-5kg King taken off the bluff two weeks ago.

Reports of good crabbing: a 2.5kg muddy was caught and it was NOT full of meat!

Best is to wait for the weather to sort itself out befor making the trip unless you wish to get wet and stay in the river.

This arvo the bloke with the Beach Fishing Charters brought in a cat to help collect some pippis from main beach pics to prove it.
He may have some tips on where the bites on
