Do you let your kids to participate in Ausfish??

Due to the resent squables happening on Ausfish latey (gees I hope the weather improves soon ) I am beginning to have a different view about letting the kids look on Ausfish.
I always thought Ausfish was for families and it has a lot of 'younger' members. But latey I've been wondering about the appropriateness of letting kids see the, in my eyes, courseness of language, constant bickering and general mud slinging by a few members.
On a whole, the content has been extremely good and 'G' rated. Lets keep it that way

My kids are all adults now.
I think even though the content does get a bit argumentive some times with a few insults thrown here and there, well thats probably pretty close to how the real world is. We need to remember that in the real world we will have disagreements etc, we dont comunicate well with all people so its seems the cyber world is the same. If we used the same control here as in the real world.
So if my kids were interested in the forum I would let them partispate as we cant shield them all their lifes but we can have good open communication with them and in my view that is what helps develop a well balanced adult

i don't have a problem with it. this is a good site.

once again, if your concerned about coarse language etc. just add anyone who you find offensive to your ignore list & the kiddies will never see a post by them..

or teach your kids that there are all sorts of people out there, some intelligent & some not so & some just plain arrogant & disruptive. a lot gets misinterpreted as it is pretty difficult to portray what is being said & how it is being said without a short novel explaining that you are joking, being sarcastic etc. etc.

me personally i enjoy all the 'discussion' ( but i tend to miss the really good ones )untill it gets to 1st grade level of name calling & such, even though i am sure some is done on purpose as an indication of what they think of the other persons intelligence.
the best way to deal with the trouble makers is to IGNORE them, some can't & keep coming back again & again & again, to me they are just as bad as the trouble makers..

on the whole the site is run pretty well, & is pretty family friendly.

my two daughters are very young - but one exclaims fish every time she sees one!!!

Good option DR.
Never knew you could do that. Beauty. End of concern for me.
We hopped on here last night and had a bit of a laugh at some of the posts with the cook commenting that some of the threads was better then days of our lives.
Opening the eyes of the kids is a good thing in the fact that they're going to run across all types in the real world and the sooner they get to know that there are all types, and how to cope with all types the better.

I'm sure they hear a lot worse around the traps then they do on here.
As long as they know not to do wrong things themselves they're cool... imo.
No use trying to wrap them in cotton wool, could backfire on you.

well my deckies are still a little young yet ( 6 , 3 and 3months) , but they enjoy reading the reports with me(especially the ones with pics) and they like it when someone gets a new boat , again for the pics
as they get older i wont have a problem with them getting their own name and posting away

my wife has just joined so the race to ausfish has already started
