For nearly two years I have been fishing for Snapper in Moreton Bay using soft plastics exclusively, but lately, I think I seem to always time my attempts with poor conditions. I'm not complaining that I don't catch fish - I do ( not as many as usual because of conditions), but have been doing it tough heading into Northerly slop chop that typifies the bay.
It's time to take it easier, I have a long list of kids who have been asking to come out on the water - Nephews, Nieces, friends Kids, but the Bay has been too rough for even my own to come out.
What are some ideas of where to go, and what to use? What's happening in the Pin at the moment? Drifting for Flatties? Bait fishing chook gut for Bream at Southport? Tailor fishing around Crusoe and Pin Bar? Hard Body lures around Raby Bay for Bream?
Who mixes up the type of fishing they do? I know that ultimately it's my decision, and I have the freedom of having my own boat, but it seems like too long since I have tried something different, I guess I am scared of taking kids fishing and not being able to put them onto anything with fins
I could throw all those ideas out the window, and head north and go deckie for some pelagics in blue water - but I better work through my list of promises to take the kids out.
If Pete (and my Dad) can catch 20+ whiting in a session and 20+ the next session and Dad follows up with about the same on the third day (with a 42cm being the best! , I would say that, there are a fair few whiting around the northern end of Pumicestone Passage at the moment!
You could send Leslie off to the shops at Maroochy and take the kids for a fish in the passage or over to Bribie and have a fish off the bank! Plenty of options! Our ferals love it on bribie and the fact that you can catch a whiting is a bonus!
Pete is his misery at the moment is saying to me "Atleast I can catch whiting "
You know whenever we are up at Mum and Dad's that you are welcome to drop by!
Hi Scalem
Mix my fishing up all the time, weather has a large part to play with how I fish.
Winter my find me siting on the river bank soaking a worm fora trout.
chasing a salmon off the rocks or on a quite day (no wind) out wide somewhere. windy days may be spent putting around the oyster leases with lures or bait. Summer time I spend most of my days off shore but often target different species. Some days I even go out with nothing (maybe a swivel) tied to the end of the line and hang it over the side to make out I am fishing and crawl up in the cab and listen to the world go by.
cheers

Mixed grill is the way to go matey
I always get a feed down the Pin but the last few trips have been made further north purely to explore a bit. Especially with the good weather we've been having.
Still have to explore the Pin a lot but I need a break from those little b*stard midgies
When I take the terrible trio out it doesn't matter if they don't catch fish. A laugh is all that's called for for the day. Gees Kadie boy was happy catching the bottom
I'm On, I'm On ha ha
when by myself or with a mate normally out in the bay but when the wife wants to show me up, normally head down the pin or logan river as no swell. i would love to explore the pin a bit more though.
