got up this morning and was persuaded by the wife to go for a day on the boat. Although it was a late start and a few rainclouds were hanging around, it was not long before we were on the water, heading to one of our favourite spots for a bit of lazing around, swiming, ect. This spot is called pelican banks and is basically a sandbar on steroids, and is showing at all tides. It is 8 km north of Hervey Bay marina.
and then it was time to go home! done 105 kms today, and earnt enough brownie points for another offshore trip [smiley=thumbsup.gif] [smiley=vrolijk_26.gif] so all in all this a lazy day in hervey bay!
Very nice. I've done plenty up there in the northern section of the bay, it's time to trek south.
I'm heading up there tomorrow, boat in tow looking for places to go to run in the new engine. I need to put up about ten hours as soon as possable.
How long/far is it to go from River Heads to Tin Can Bay and back. I worked out about a 38NM trip each way. Would this be right? Would I be pushing it to do this trip in one day, or would you suggest a few days trip? How shallow are thesewaters on low tide? Anywhere i'm likely to run aground in a 5.3m boat?
Could you list a few places I might like to stop off for lunch or afternoon tea along the way?
I've got a new copy of Brownies, any other advice you would point out?
boatboy , i think 38nm sounds about right, and it is a great trip , there is plenty of places to stop for a look such as ungowa, garys anchorage ect. If you are pushed for time ,you will do it in a day, but you will not enjoy the area as much as if you did it in 2 , for there is a lot to see. Yes there is a lot of shallow water / sand bars around here so you are doing the right thing using a copy of brownies, because if you rush it around here , you will run aground. Tomorrow the tides are a high of 2.74 mtrs at 6:21 am and a low of .96 at 12 :11 according to hervey bay tide times. If you are going to stay overnight , make sure you take mozzie repellant because thay are thick around here at night.. but after all that mate, the trip is well worth it!! all the best!!
