G'day
Bull sharks bull sharks and more bull sharks, few catfish and mullet thrown in aswell.
Seriously though, what would you like to target and what gear do you have?
Do you have a boat or are you landbased?
Dave
I saw a couple of guys in a tinny trolling lures in the middle of the day in the Brissy river upstream from where the Bremer joins in.
I don't know what they would be chasing, but I don't think it would be sharks.
have got a small tinnie 9.5 horse wondered if bream and that sort of thing got this far up
Might get a few bass i think !

Mate, I feel for ya. I grew up in Ipswich and was lucky enough to get a transfer to the sunny coast about 6 years ago. Try to avoid having to ever go back. The scar on my shoulder is healing quite well. You better be carefull if you stay too long you will start to grow the second head aswell.
My suggestion.... Forget fishing around there!
Like was said about the only things to catch are the noah's arks.
Piggin - you could convert to fresh and get out to the dams.
But most likely team up with some blokes out your way for the convoy out to the salt.
If you are desperate for a hook up, get serious gear and pick up some sharks. Flake is still my favourite in so many ways.
You say fish, I say yes please.
agree with homer, grew up there, left at sixteen(joined military) and never went back, still hate visiting the place but mum and dad still live there. when i left in the early eighties sharks eels catfish and lungfish(have to throw back) were about it.
Mate I have caught Bream in the Bremer, seriously, couldnt believe it myself. I wouldn't eat anything out of it though otherwise catfish, eels and a turtle all at nth Booval.
my best recommendations, is to either head for the salt (down the caost to the pin of out to the bay) or to go inland to the freshwater scene.
I'm sure just coing in contact with the water from the bremer river is toxic.
But yes there are alot of sharks around in the rivers, and for those in know , there are some very big bass to be had on poppers during the warmer months in some of the back streams that eventually lead into the bremer
by the sounds of it you have no idea great fish can be caught at ipy EG:Tarpon Bass Flathead Bream and even Whiting all can be caught in the brisbane river .Then you have the dams i dont like fresh water fish but when the weather is bad they are nice and close .It is like most fishing trips put the effort in and you will get resultsOriginally Posted by Homer_Jay

homer_jay it should be homo_jay............
obviously you have not fished here much or fishing is not your thing. There are plenty of Quility fish up this end. River bass, Tarpon, flathead, big bream, and sharks. I agree with smailesy.
I think the scar is on your fore head not your shoulder homo oh I mean homer_jay
I know of a local boy who cast nets the bremer for fish for his freshwater aquarium, just recently he called me around to show me his baby mangrove jack that he caught in the cast net!!
I understand why he didn't tell me over the phoe, as i would not have believed him unless i seen it myself.
If land based try junction of the two rivers for tarpon, try around colledges crossing for bream and sharkies.
Lived in Ipswich for 20 years before heading north - I never mind visiting?
Fishing is ok for an 'inland' area - all species mentioned but I always enjoyed catching gar as well - Kholo is a start.
Somerset and wivenhoe dams are a great option as well - species are well documented already.
Catching fish in Ipswich kept me going for years as a youngster - I'm sure you'll be right!
