Just as a matter of interest.
What exactly would people want a fishing log to record and/or display.
I write a bit of software in my spare time & often thought about something along these lines, but would probably never use somthing like this myself so I haven't bothered.
I would suppose details such as date, species, time of catch, moon phase, tide, bait etc etc.
If there's sufficient interest I may look into it at some point.
Getting tide time predictions & solunar tables going is the tough part as there's little non-commercial information available that's suitable for a windows based application. What is available is written in C which I don't use.
cheers,
Owen

Australian Fishing Network publish a book called anglers Journal and Almanac which can be found at K-Mart in the fishing section. I think it outlines most of what is needed in a log. - but it is only a book and it is not programmed like a spreadsheet might be to be able to draw conclusions from the prevailing conditions that correspond to good catches.
If you can't find it I could PM you the relevant pages

Thanks Tony,
I had a look at the software that has been already developed above and I have to say that I think it's reasonably priced given the features.
I'd be only re-inventing the wheel if I were to do it and to be honest considering the 100's of hours that's involved I'm in no hurry
Most of the public domain software I have developed has either been freeware or what I call donationware (I ask you give to the starlight foundation). The rest has been commercial applications for specific uses.
If I was to put in the time to do something like what's already been done by John I'd have to charge for it which means I'd have to offer support etc.
Don't really have the time at the moment.
Besides, John will have to sell a lot of copies before he makes any sort of hourly rate out of what he's done.

This is the one i have been using.

it isn't Australian based but its quite easy to use and setup for any fish and conditions. you must enter the moon phase and tide times it dosn't work these out for you. It looks like a access database and you can populate the data with all your own gear/fishing areas and fish caught!!
Haven't sused out the "pro" version yet have been able to get enought (for now) outa the free one
Cheers
Brandon..
have the Ken Fox Fish log 95.
to answer the question of what its for is to accuratly log your fishing trips and your fishing spots to create a pattern of your captues.
like if you target a specific type of fish in march you can look back at previous years data and see the for EG that in march you did real well getting say bream at the pin on soft Plastics in the colour blue and pink.
the tide was up the moon was where ever the barometric pressure was X and so forth.
or that you got 60 tailor on the last of the run in tide useing pillies .
it just capture data to try to improve your fishing by thinking smarter.
it can store your GPS marks and plot them onto a detailed map of your most fished areas.you can printout a list of or a map of your marks for the trip so you can say to yourself we'll go here first then there next or what ever.
I've been useing the log for about 7-8 years and i've got pages of data that helps track fishing condition from past years good to see if the fishing is getting better or worse.
the cost is $99 then every year you get updates with the next years tides and moons + any program mods for 25 bucks.
Cheers Cloud 9
then it realy gets ughly
sounds good jamie
could you please send me all your data about your flathead captures for the classic
scotty
Hi Joe,
I made my own up in MS Works, pretty easy to do as i'm pretty crap with computers. If you need a hand give me a call ph: 5491 8629.
Good luck
Greg
Fish Frequent certian places different times of the season and repeat their travels every year to the same places so their decendants do the same thing at the same places. if you have a good catch it is handy to have a log so you go back to the same place next year and catch the same type of fish. I have a scrap book I saved from news paper clipings from a fellow that used to expose his log in the local newspaper many years ago and it still works today. Spindles.
Sorry all,
Just got back from 2 weeks fishing holiday and my feet haven't touched the ground.
I will contact everyone that has responded to my post ASAP
Again many thanks
Joe
