    Stockhorse,
Great to see you are including the littlies. My daughter is also 7yrs old and her and I fish often, sometimes she gets a little bored especially if the fish are not biting but that's when I let her help me reel my fish in...It keeps her interested. We used to live at Wynnum Qld and when we were there always fished for fun off the jetty at Wynnum Beachfront, but not a whole lot of bites there. A sure place to catch some which is great, is the old Hornibrook Bridge at Redcliffe, always was plenty of whiting to catch there.... When I got started with her, she was 4 and I gave her just a kiddies rod with light tackle and worms and the very first fish she caught was a little whiting...Let me tell you, the face on her was absolutely PRICELESS, the best experience for her and myself ever. Your children will love it I promise as my daughter and I have our best times ever out fishing and even better times camping & fishing.
    Hope it helps,
    Nicki

Now if go's to one of these the children can kept the rod and reel for keeps
that's what premier P.Beattie promise in his Outdoor and Lifestyle piocly at last state election with the take a kid fishing even so didn't know how cast the reel himself
The great way to teach children is taking bread and butter fishing like whiting /flathead and bream all great species to target and evenly match for the kids especial onthoses light tackle and small rods and I have to agree in what gelsec said too

To me its great way to for kids getting outdoor and learning about fishing/camping and what the learn and see environment is all about

If you come down to the coast have a look at the upper reaches of the coomera river around coomera. Some good fishing there, you can start the kids on mullet using bread on small hooks. You will also get other fish too, bream, flathead, cod, trevally, queenies, the list goes on.

Took my 3yo fishing on the beach at Moreton Island Easter last year (no hook at that age). She loved standing beside daddy while she pretended to fish. She also thought it was great when mummy caught more (& bigger) fish than daddy. I now carry my rod in the car with me during the day so I can have a flick during lunch. My daughter asks to see which lure is on it every day when I pick her up from kindy. I went and bought her a pink & purple lively lure (removed the trebbles), she was stoked. It sits on her cabinet in her room.

Good luck, hope the kids (&adults) love fishing.
