Gippsland Lakes
Has anyone had any luck fly fishing the Gippsland lakes/Lake Tyres area? Any information on what your targets species was and the reason for your success would be appreciated.

Re: Gippsland Lakes
Spehrsy,
great to see some vic fisho's are on this site.
Had some luck at the Kalimna break wall and at Lake Tyres, 3 weekends ago.
Target fish were salmon and trevally, with success.Using a 10wt outfit and surf poppers, blue and red ,and white deceivers with a blue flash.
I got onto a good school of salmon, at Tyers ,only to 1.4kg, and had a ball.
Off Kalimna, using the smaller deceiver, i hooked into some nice small trevally, around 600g and mor salmon and tailor to 1kg.
Good days like that are not common, so i guess i was johnny on the spot.
I don't give a rats, i'll take it as it comes.
Hope this is a help, as it is encouraging.
Tight lines ,
Dudley.

Thanks Dudley
I have been specifically targetting bream in the Crystal Bay area but have had no success. Being relatively new to fly fishing it has been a pretty steep learning curve. I take it the salmon were off the surf at Tyres. How far a cast was required?
I just cant wait for the spring/summer run of dusky flathead, that should make for some interesting fishing.
See ya in the soup

Many Thanks Dudley. I will stick at it and hopefully the results will come with the warmer weather.
