    New to this Forum

    Hello All/ G'day

I live in South Florida (East coast) and plan on being in your part of the world for a Reunion of the 173D Airborne Brigade/ 1 RAR that will be in Sydney July 2005, I know that's a long way off but I hope to spend at least 3 weeks or more depending on the $$$$. I guess I will have to head North that time of year for some serious fishing?
(Any and All advise gratefully accepted).

I fish in the ST. Lucie and Indian Rivers and some out front (Ocean) when She's under 3 footers (18' Flats boat).

    G'day,

    Welcome aboard.

If time is short, you could try a charter in Sydney harbour.

Heading north is a good option if you have the resources. I'd recommend Cape York, Queensland.

I'd love to try your home waters. Tangling with a huge Atlantic Tarpon is one of my dreams.

    WES,
I spend alot of time chasing Sir Tarpon, but it's not like you see on TV they can be all around you and never eat but I just can't stop. My wife claims I'm obsessed and I tell her Fishing is not a matter of life and death it's much more important than that! Sometimes I have them in the back yard so if you are ever over here give ,me a yell.

    rlbgfish173,

Flyfishing for Longtail Tuna and Golden Trevally is my obsession.

If you are in Brisbane in July I could take you out for a spot of tuna fishing.

I'd recommend Weipa for great flyfishing. Large variety of species, easily accessable, great guides, and boat for hire if you want to do-it-yourself.

July is our winter and the fishing is a bit slower than the warmer months in the tropics.

    Check out http://www.weipaflyfish.com.au/index.html

I've got long term plans to go over to the West Indies to watch the Australian Cricket team play in 2007. I'd though I'd drop into Florida while I'm over there. A mate is trying to put together a trip to Cuba next year too.

Florida Tarpon is definately on my "to-do list"

    rlbgfish173,

If I somehow find myself some work up north by the time you come over, and I get the local fishing worked out I would be more than happy to take you out for a fish also. It looks like you may get a few offers- flyfishermen seem to be the same everywhere- always happy to help each other out.

Like Wes said, those tarpon are a magnificent fish and I wouldn,t mind giving them a try one day.

    Wes, and Adam
If you are going to be in Florida just let me know.
I am also planning a bonefishing trip to South Caicos next March if anyone is interested and over this way.
Cuba has been looking interesting for quite a while however Uncle Sam is still mad at Castro so we can't go.

Wes, I like your obsessions, 8) 8) is a 12 wt enough for your Tuna?

Hi rlbgfish I'am up in Hervey Bay so if happen to be around these parts would be glad to take you out for a day or two.I've been getting into some nice little Golden Trevally of late not real big at around 2-3 kilo but plenty of them. Get alot bigger fish during summer though and these little fellas are'nt on the flats but still good fun.Been gettin some GT's around the same size and then there's allways the chance at a longtail or mac tuna. Anyway if your up this way let me know through this forum and we can link up for a fish.Luv it up here!!! Paul

Should you end up in Cairns in 2005 give me a yell and we will see what we can do. The later the better, as is the case now things are pretty hard going with wind and cold temps.

Plenty of options from bluewater to freshwater but the warmer months are better

    G'day Snelly,
What do you mean by later? The Reunion is from 30 June to 09 July, would I be better off heading North after the reunion?
Thanks for the offer, same goes if you are over here.
    Pat
