Technique for Impoundment Barras
G'day all,
Some of you guys look like you've been giving the barra up at Lake Proserpine and some of the other barra impoundments a hard time
So what's the secret?? 8) 8) Reason I ask is I'm heading off to Lake Nassar in Egypt to fish for the barra's cousin, the Nile Perch in April...
Would be interested to hear what you guys have been doing to (in terms of flies, techniques, time of month etc) to crack the code on the impoundment barras back home, and see if those same techniques will work on Nile Perch.
From my research, April's suppose to be the best time for Nile Perch on fly there... the fish lay in about 10-20ft of water, as they are hunting the tilapia that spawn in the shallows around that time.
Cheers,
Kelvin

Good luck Kelvin,
I suggest nothing but +60 Pound tippet.
Big flies that push lots of water.
A slow jerky retrieve.
If they end up in the snags ease up on the presure and you will get them out eventualy, never give up.

Go to Harros site & get the info from the horse's mouth (so to speak) on the nile perch.
Go to http://www.harro.com.au then click on the "bulletin board".

Re: Technique for Impoundment Barras
Thanks guys - i put a similar post on the DB website... but thought I'd put one here just to see if i can get a few tips on impoundment barra on fly and use the same techniques on the NPs.
Ferralflyer - don't know about 2001, but i have fished the cania comp before... might be 1999 or 2000... been out of the country for a little over a year now and am working overseas... so i feel a bit out of the loop.
Andy - what do you use in the terms of flies on the Faust these days? Bulky synthetics like fat alberts? You probably catch more of them than anyone else...

HI Kelvin, yes sorry 2000 comp ,i was in the cabin beside you i think you fished with ED,yer sore the photo of your muschie or pike a while back nice looking fish, off to try your hand at a nile pearch hey, cousins hubby goes down to his spot over there in a river with rod and lure and just casts at snags of the bank and gets 70to80cm ones, tiddlers they say so have fun and hang on,sorry dont no what colours he uses, but if harros been there i bet you he tossed a pinkthing for shore,it is one that catches niles cousins well.
But as you have research a hany bit of info 10 to 20 feet bass them on sink tip or full sink, broard dark flie in 3d profile would work you would think,im tying for the dam barra here in a fould over patten its a angle hair patten ,but in h2o slinky
fibers it build great good to trim and it profiles great.
Rodger M may be able help you with that style of tie and add rattle spanwing fish make noise and put out vibs, hope this helps,Cheers
