    First Fish on Fly

Ok. well after the quiet day at the pond last weekend i went back this afternoon.

through on a small popper and down to the pond i went. ended up pulling in 1 barra and lost another when the hook came out of it's mouth.

Had several hits/splashes at the popper on the retrieve over the hour i was there.

So atleast i know i can cast out and retrieve and do everything right to catch a fish on fly. i had a ball.

The place i went was called Catch-a-Barra Fishing Park. located 5mins out of Yeppoon on the Yeppoon-Rockhampton Hwy.

Good one local guy didn"t take long ha!,now catch a wild one,you are in a good position to target more speicies on that popper in this heat ,go hard, its a different feeling getting a hit on fly, well if your not hooked now you never will,so now its time to get your fly tying gear togehter and start part 3 of fly fishing and it don"t happen over night, work at it its more saticfying on your own fly,Cheers

Try just past the Resort, just over the Golf Course there is a little dam on your left. In there is a couple of nice Barra and a couple of nice Saratoga. As well as that there is quite a few little spangled perch. Try some sort of surface fly popper for the barra and the saratoga, and something like a muddler minnow for the perch. That was where I got my first fish on fly.
I'm now living in Darwin chasing barra up here.
    Have fun.

Even though I am doing well in the salt, I finally got around to catching my first trout on fly. Got 6 of them in fact at a dam stocked by my fly club. I can't wait to catch a wild brown now. A bit more of a challenge than stocked rainbows

The best part was I got my first trout on a fly I tied myself, most were caught on shop bought fly though.

yeah if you get caught it can get a bit iffy but early on saturday morning they tend to turn a blid eye. Yeppoon golf course has some barra as well if you ask nicely they will say yes as well.
under the ross creek bridge is a great spot for flatties on a pink or yellow clouser.i know the place well lived there for ten years
    have fun Grant
