The Saltwater Flyfishers Association Sunshine Coast, Longtail Tuna Chase is on again. This will take place from 18th March (Briefing night) at 7.00pm to Sunday 21st March 2004. The Moolooaba Yacht Club on Parkyn Parade Moolooolaba will be the venue. This will be a great opportunity for Flyfishers all over Australia to put their longtail tuna fishing skills to the test, with the emphasis on having fun. There are no major prizes, simply fishing for trophies in categories of Male Champion, Female, Junior and Team. Though prizes will be given out to every competitor who fishes the Longtail Tuna Chase. Our sponsors generously donate these prizes. Our major sponsor this year is The Tackle Shop Carseldine. The Longtail Tuna Chase is in its 5th year, with 70 competitors catching 270 tuna last year over 2 and a half days. One of the highlights of the competition is the 6.00am start, where all the competition boats line up, a siren is sounded, and all boats move off as one. This is very exciting to watch. Also at the unofficial de-brief at the end of each fishing session, once the capture sheets are handed in, Anglers stand around and discuss success stories or not so successful flyfishing stories. But with such a crowd of Anglers standing around discussing flyfishing, there is sure to be some good information on flies or techniques to be used in the next day’s fishing session. With the longtail tuna schools only being 100 m to 1km off the coastline, they are easily accessible in 4m tinnies with 25 hp and above. The teams this year will consist of 2 Anglers per boat, with the option of a driver (non-fishing crewmember). So come along and test your skills on this great sport fish and learn new skills from other Fly Fisherman. Entry forms are available from our major sponsor ‘The Tackle Shop Carseldine’ or at http://www.ausfish.com.au/SWFAEntryForms.pdf
