    RUNNING LINES

Over the years I have used several different types of running lines some good and some no so good for various reasons. I have recently tried the Talon advanced running line and found it to be the best so far. It is very well behaved and you are not constantly untangling it. I do not use any type of LMD and with this line I don't feel that it is necessary. Also for the price I don't think you can go too far wrong at $36- for 100ft.

    Re: RUNNING LINES

    Hi Jon,
I've been using 50lb guidabrod (spelling) with 10kg mono treaded through the centre of it. It casts like a rocket but i've yet to hook a tuna on it to see how it stands up to serious pressure.

    Steve,

how long did it take you to thread the mono up the guidebrod?
A shooting head I had that came with a reel I bought 2nd hand had a guidegrod running line with no core. Like you said casts like a bullet but very prone to tangles. it was only 35lb I think and I tried to stuff it with 6kg mono but gave up in disgust after 10 feet.

Hey snelly, where did you get the Talon line from?

Terry Hayden sells a 70 foot runnng line of 35 lb gudebrod with 50 lb bionic braid inner for $85 and can be ordered longer.
It's under accessories on his web page www.flyreels.com.au

    Re: RUNNING LINES

Tried the thread job one night with Stuy Jack in Cairns, over a bottle or two of red...The red won.

Would like to give it a go but wouldnt the gudebrod have a different stretch to the mono, and therefore move ???

Prepare for a sermon from the west...

    Re: RUNNING LINES

I have used the mono stuffued up the gudebrod and without a LMD it tangles. This stuff doesn't. I have provided a few members of our club with this running line and they are all happy with it

    Re: RUNNING LINES

The Sermon from the West. One doesn't stuff mono up Gudebrod braided mono, its pointless. One stuffs 20lb Gudebrod braided mono with 30/50 BB. This gives a thin, no knot, no stretch running line that doesn't tangle much. To go better stuff 80lb hollow PowerPro or Jacks 80lb ProPower GsP with 15lb mono. Its even better. You need at least 100 feet. But it takes time. Nothing good is cheap. You spend thousands on gear why not a few hours on a pefect running line. One also polishes the stuffed braided mono lines with Mr Sheen. A good soak and a polish. Does wonders.

Not a bad sermon that one...Just the facts. Maybe the church should take note.
Thanks Max....Am 1/3 through stuffing 20 lb gude with 30 lb bionic for an 8 wt , will attach to 26" of LC 13...
Look forward to testeing it out.

    Re: RUNNING LINES

Roger that Jon....Got one lenght of T14 left
(had a lot of it earlier in the year but left a few lengths on a certain pylon at Weipa...No.6 from memory)

Still dont mind the LC, and still a stickler for Cortland Cobra, especially after a trick Morsey showed me a few weeks ago.
He places the running line in hot water and leaves it to sit there overnight....
No stretching required after this, it seats neatly and obediently on the deck of the boat all day ...(still good for the next few days too !!)

    Still threading.......

    Re: RUNNING LINES

    Nat,

took me about four nights threading fireline through braided gudebrod mono. For cheapskates like me this is worth the effort.

One more thing the hardware here in T.I are stocking fly fishing gear! the only thing is that the fly rods and reels are cheap trout (not coral) outfits and the flylines are cold weather variety. I wonder who will be the poor bugger buying this outfit.

Ps. big schools of LT busting up near Entrance Island cant wait for the wind to drop. Also regularly catching 2-3kg GT's and Goldies at POW flats by sight casting.
