Import Regulations of Flyfishing tackle
Hi,
I am coming to OZ in Feb 05 from UK and want to bring fly tackle with me. Anyone know of any restrictions/regulations that have to be complied with ?
I am going to Port Douglas area armed(hopefully)WITH #8 OUTFIT & baitfish/crab fly patterns. Can anyone help with what to expect. Tight Lines - HelloSalar

You will be OK to bring it in.
Might want to set you sights a bit higher than a 8wt up there but

Gday HelloSalar
You will have a great time up there at this time of year ..with the recent rain in the area you should target the rocky outcrops and fish with large-ish size baitfish profiles for Barra and also popper flies..use a prety heavy leader as these fish will cut you off with their gill plates...The only thing I think you will have probs with is bringing natural fibre flies into Aus(quarantine regulations) but you should be able to buy what you need when you get here!!
Also try and find your way up ointo the freshwater creeks and look for the quiet water/pools around the fast flowing rocky sections and you will get sooty grunter..great fun on fly...the recent rain spurs on their spawning run and can make for fun fishing!!You will get away with an #8 wt but in the salt water make sure you have heaps of backing just incase!!
GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN

Not sure, but Aust Quarantine Inspection Service AQIS might intecept any flies with fur or feathers in them. They're pretty strict on any animal products. Last lot of bio plastics I ordered in from O/S AQIS kept due to animal based oils being used in the process. Damn! Money down the drain that was!
Like I said not sure, will pay to make sure before hand tho.
Cheers,
fitzy..
