Never fished the area but reading fishing reports from reef areas, big white deceivers weighted with lead wire seem to do well over the reef. The good old clouser would be a must. Poppers over the reef flat MMMMMMMMM!!!!

    willbarra,
10 weight will be fine. you'll still get smashed and broken up on heavier gear, but you will still land fish on 10 weight. in the old days and still in some modern day situations, coral trout get fished for via a method refered to as "wogging!" Wogging is a simple style of fishing where a single hook is dressed up with sparse amounts of coloured hair to form a very simple looking fly. it was fished on sinking handlines and trolled slowly along reef edges and was a 'killer' in their 'hey day'. many simple colours are used. red and black sticks in my mind from previous experiences and so too does bright orange. Some modern day commercial trout anglers use a simple orangle 'wog' at times to catch trout off the reef edges and bombies, whilst they are at anchor and bait fishing.
So , if you try a multitude of different colours and allow your flies to sink into the nasty zones i'm confident that you will catch trout.(use berley to help) anchor up and berley with pilchards. trout are sticky beaks, they eye ball everything that goes on above them in their environment, and they will definitely see your flies free falling from above in amongst berley.
i can only imagine what else you will catch on fly. the spanish have moved from the swains by november, but their may be stragglers! mass pelagic species like trevally, shark mackerel, tunas, etc patrol the reef, not to mention giant longtom (several species). Sail fish, marlin, wahoo also live out there. OHHHHHH,,,i almost forgot,,,,,,,,,,when your anchored up at night and late afternoon, plagues of XOS 20-40kg Giant Trevally will eat all your scraps etc while processing fish. FLY time oh yes!! tie one that looks like a fish frame and your home and hosed!!!!
heavy leaders are imperative i am assuming as i nod my head!!
