not sure if you are a local or a new resident. Many locations around town for fly fishing experiences. do u have a boat, if u do , the boundaries are endless. Southend, Curtis Island has a mass variety of species from demersal to pelagic. There is the odd man made pond that holds wild stocks of fish if you know the right person. Unfortunately i don't know him either!! yell out if you need more direction, or just ask at a local tackle store.

Lake Awoonga Guided Barra Fishing Charters
I have caught around 20 different species in the Gleadtone area and I'm still a "tennis elbowed, no finess, flay the water, novice. Try Wild Cattle Ck around the rocks at low and early in tide for Flathead and Queenies. Other than that, the local bridges, rocks, points in the harbour and flats all produce at the right times. I'm staying a couple of nights in Gladstone in January. We're on a Oz holiday trip, my wife and I, and it's not a pure fishing holiday this time. However, I would like to try my luck with a fly rod where possible.
When in Gladstone, we're staying in Toolooa. Could you please point me to some single spot where I could catch something with my fly rod? It should be something easily accessible from our accommodation, without a car or boat. I would be happy to catch just about any Australian fish (well, of course, the bigger the better , since I can't catch any one of them in my cold home country, Finland...

I will be away for much of January so I can't accompany you, but let me suggest a couple of options. If you are flushed with cash, you may want to hire Johnny Mitchell who would take you to Lake Awoonga and put you amongst some Barra. Another option is to get a lift to Wild Cattle Ck at Tannum Sands and spend some time there as I mentioned previously. The canals that supply the Power Station are also worth a go, especially around the bridges where you may get bream, barra, trevally or queenies.
