    scad on fly

    gday,
after my last trip to the hinchinbrook in QLD i landed many finny scad (Megalaspis cordyla) on metal slugs. Apart from being much less sought after and less desirable as tuna and other pelagics they still prove to be quite hard-pulling and aggressive fish on light gear. Has anybody out there ever targetted them on fly, if so what patterns? ive tied some small epoxy whitebait- type flies similar to the lures we used, im assuming these would work with a very quick retrieve. Any ideas????

    cheers paul

Madfish mate Yep they work pretty well match the hatch with them but get something in front of their faces. This one from Fraser Island with Paul Dolan but we caught plenty while bait fishing off Lizard Island not bad marlin baits.

yea thanks for the reply mate, your right they do make top baits, we trolled up some very nice big spaniards with whole scad baits.

In about half an hour of casting we had boated about 3 dozen scad up to 80cm and a monster that would have nearly gone a metre all on calcutta 100's with 10pd braid, just bummed that i left the fly rods at home

Best way to catch fish on fly is to do that in reverse and leave the "other" gear at home

    That is a big one!
