freshwater tagging

hi im really keen to do some local tagging in my water ways when the weather becomes warm enough , my targets will be murry cod and yellas but have heard of fish in freshwater dying because the skin around the tag rots or dies and i dont wont to harm any of these great fish,but would love to hear if any one else has heard anything like this, would just love to know how big the fish are growing and if ive caught the same fish again. any help appreciated. cvheers bdowdy
