hi, im new to this board and its gr8
i REALLY want to buy a lil tinie about 3m long but my parents dont know if im allowed to go around the brissy river on it........am i?
i just wanted to go crusing around and do a lil fishing with about 1-2 friends on it
r we allowed to go out by ourselves???????????
well if u know any thing about it plz reply and if u know of and cheap second hand tinnies for sale that would be great

It states
"A licence is required to operate any boat which is powered by a motor of more than 4.5kW (over 6HP), is capable of
speeds in excess of 10 knots and has a planing or non-displacement hull"

There is all the info you need on there, it may not be the easiest to navigate around but it is all there.


The number of people you have in the boat will depend on the size boat and power of the motor and if your parents think it is safe. The matter of if you can go out by yourself you would need to ask your parents as well as they would need to make a decision on safety and responsibility, etc.

Boater i live in sydney and used to drive my boat round
When i was 14 -[17 now] i didnt have licence and used to be scared about getting picked up by water police
In syd you can go up to 10 knots without needing a licence .
There is no age limit for boating and the police or waterways shouldnt pick you up.
just remember to be sensible, dont drink alchhol, and have proper safety gear
Bailey, Rope, Mobile Phone, Oars, and a life jacket each.
Just be careful and dont break rules....and dont do what me and my friends used to do.....kneeboarding off 10ft tinny with a 6hp motor gets their unwanted attention!'
