    Naming a boat

Im thinking of naming my boat but dont know if I can just put the name on it or if I have to register it.
Any help on this topic would be greatly appreciated.

    Re: Naming a boat

whatever you name your boat is up to you. You can stick the name on the side or transom of your boat and you don't have to tell anyone! The name of your boat will then become your call sign for your marine radio. I don't think your call sign has to be registered with anyone - well not for 27 mHz anyway. Not sure about VHF.

What are you going to call her?

    Re: Naming a boat

    Adrian,

if is pretty difficult to find a boat name that nobody else has. Nothing is original anymore. There is a pretty damn comprehensive listing of boat names at http://www.boatus.com/names/default.asp. If you can't find your name there, then chances are better than average that it is original.

    Good luck!

    Re: Naming a boat

Brownie has heaps of interesting links of his web site www.browniescoastwatch.com, but other than that, there aren't any other really good boating websites I know of for Australia.
